At the moment I'm working through Gloomhaven Jaws of the Lion. I know a lot of people say the story isn't much and that's true but I've been enjoying it so far. I think the next game I'm eyeing right now is Middara which I know has much heavier story element to it.

How is the story content of games like Oathsworn and Descent?

Also have Aeon Trespass Odyssey on order, can't wait to give that a try!

7th Continent isn’t a HUGE story, but it’s fun to discover. Can’t speak for some of the ones you listed but Middara is great. Solo, it will be a little much to control all 4 characters. I’ve been playing 2P where we each go double handed and that’s totally fine. It’s a massive table hog but the story is really interesting. Feels anime for sure, tongue in cheek witty humor that can devolve into some light hearted antics but there’s story flags you get by making certain choices that come back to you later. Like a choose your own adventure where the main plot is still locked in but little things pile up and change how it goes. I prefer the Middara story to Gloomhaven for reference.

That's a good idea to limit the amount of work to do by having to play 4 characters. I'll definitely have to think about it whenever I end up playing.
