I am not condoning keeping a man in your attic, especially if he didn't enthusiastically want to be there, but Fred sounds like he was a dick too.

What did Fred do? The article says that he and Walburga got into an argument. What else?

It said he was notoriously grumpy and she had to intervene for his workers. Its just me getting a vibe
