Commander format discussion

Also called EDH or Elder Dragon Highlander, Commander is Magic's most popular format and all about picking your hero and building a deck around them. In this casual, multiplayer format, you choose a legendary creature to serve as your commander and build the rest of your 100 card deck around their color identity and unique abilities. Players are only allowed one of each card in their deck, with the exception of basic lands, but they can use cards from throughout Magic's history.

Commander combines the command zone, color identity, singleton deckbuilding, multiplayer strategies, and the entire MtG cardpool for one of the most exciting and fresh ways to play.

Haven't used it and likely never will, but I have to wonder what goes into its process. Does it just pull top hits from EDHRec that match keywords? Does it assign point values and roles to cards to figure out utility or "competitiveness?" Does it give you any explanation for a card being included? Half the joy of the format for me is the puzzle and discovery of deckbuilding. I understand why tools like this and EDHRec exist, but I'm certainly not the target user.

Their about page (https://edhgen.ai/about) implies they are using an algorithm that plays games of magic to train the AI against known good decks. Which will give no insight as to why it includes a card, but will take into account all the utility side of things. Or is will to the extent that it's game playing engine can make strategic choices (which it probably can't)

More charitably, they've trained on data on games between humans including decklists and results. That would not be as unbelievable. (Not sure where they would get that kinda data for EDH.)

I think they're kidding or trolling, or it's a scam. AI can't play Magic (as of June 24th, 2023, 10 AM—I better put the date in there).
