In a response to Spez threatening to put reopening subreddits to a poll, /r/pics has gotten ahead of the game and voted to reopen, but only allow "Images of John Oliver looking sexy".

/r/selfawarewolves is currently holding a poll as to whether the sub should switch to pictures of literal wolves instead of the boring political wolves that had been the mainstay previously.

Thanks for the heads up! I voted on the r/pics one, so I'm off to vote on the r/selfawarewolves one. Unfortunately, it looks like the wolf pics option is losing. :(
