but does the hit sound work? i have done this with some success but i've always wondered...
There is no hitsound for hitting a disguised spy. Little blood particles will still fly when hit by bullets (not explosives, to my knowledge), but that's easy to miss. If you're bold enough and/or have no other way out, simply ignoring incoming damage that doesn't immediately kill you can fool the inattentive.
so i'm not crazy for acting like someone is behind me when this happens. that seems to have been working for me the best. like 'oh fk who you shooting at bro?"
It doesn't work often but it's a handy last trick before getting killed.
