Dia dhuit agus failte! I am creating this community because I really liked /r/Ireland, but the decisions that Reddit admins have made regarding API access and the frankly awful way they have treated third party developers and the wider user base have left me wanting an alternative.

Simply put, the worst part about /r/Ireland was Reddit and the direction the company was going in.

So with that said, here is an alternative. A community for the island of Ireland, a place for Ireland and Irish people. I hope to enable discussion about news & current events, where people can ask questions, share memes, and just for general good craic and good vibes. Memes, shitposts, questions, discussions and news are all welcome.

I would ask people to not take the piss please, and if ye are going to post articles, please don't post paywalled ones.

Anyway, suggestions welcome. I hope you enjoy this community.

Anyone up to anything today? How has the weekend gone so far for everyone?

I took about a week off work and I’m back tomorrow. I’m not dreading it but still… Might do some shopping later before going back to the grind. Must do up my CV as well as I’m looking to change jobs in the near future.

I'm hoping to have a day off from having to fix broken things, so far this week

Monday and Tuesday - taking all the guttering, soffit trims and soffits down on the front of the house because a small furry thing nibbled the wires to the outside lights.

Wednesday - replacing a dead capacitor in the lawnmower.

Thursday - replacing the dead cooling fan in my NAS.

Friday - fitting two new glow plugs in one of the cars (I'll be glad when it's replaced with an EV).

Yesterday - stripping down the dishwasher and cleaning load of gunk out of it that was stopping water going in.

Fair play! Seems like you’re fierce handy at fixing things though, its a solid skill to have and probably saves a fortune in the long run.

What are you using your NAS for? Just general storage and whatnot?

I try to do as much as possible myself, saves a fortune, it's really only anything on the cars that requires a lift that I farm out, but plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding and fabricating etc I'll do myself, usually as it's a good excuse to hide in the workshop away from being found other things to do.

The NAS is an ancient Qnap TS-209 Pro II a friend gave me after the psu and cooling fan died, this is the first time it's failed again in about 10 years, it's only used for backing up photos and stuff from a car owners club I run, so nothing fancy.
