With the rise of mp3 there was no such thing like „banning“ rap music in Germany. There were albums that got somewhat like shadowbanned, means you were not allowed to advertise them nor sell it publicy to ppl under 18 years. Some artists were sued by the law back in the days but that just rose them to more fame. There are indeed laws and authorities in Germany which take a look at probably racist or anti semitic arts because of our history. Some rockbands got sued for racist/anti semitic/nazi music but rap was mostly shadowbanned and a few years later unbanned from a list we call „Index“ here.

I mean yeah I did the same, but it's more of being a financial disaster for artists, for example when Shindy got his first album indexed and they had to re-release it. That was a major wrench in his finances imo

This was way after „my“ time. I can think of Bassboxxx, Hirntot Records etc - this stuff was pretty rude and well yeah debateable of course. Those dudes were just underground rappers who could never imagine someone out of their scope would ever hear that stuff.

Totally, thats fair enough, I think there are cases where it doesn't harm the artist but in some cases it can end up being a tool of sabotage by politicians for some sort of arbitrary reason.. Which is sad af

Sure! I am convinced art in any way should never ever be censored, doesn't matter if it's racist/anti-semitic/whatever - ppl who think like that will always find a way to consume music that matches their views and banning stuff will tempt ppl to find and consume media like that. I did it, you did it - there's no need for a authority deciding what is good/bad for young ppl. I know this is controversial, especially in these times we're living in right now.

Same with any form of media, publish whatever you want, you might get fucking roasted for it, but you shouldn't get censored imo
