Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! โœˆ๏ธ

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

May question ako, after the whole abandoning of this community.. Is there any hope for any move outside of the main social medias?

Intro

I've thought about this, since I've been exploring Mastodon, Bluesky vs Twitter/X.. Nostr. Any move outside of the main three, Facebook, Twitter/X, and Reddit.. fizzles out like this one. While there still remains somewhat of a community, such as the more popular communities in this fediverse.. I wonder what's the hope of switching away from the dominant socmeds if there is no homegrown movement here. I mean, look at me, I very rarely post, and look at Lemmy since any important info is almost always in reddit due to search..

Reflection

Don't get me wrong.. We all have lives outside of social media, (~~especially me~~), it's just.. very hard to come back and look at the multiple of dead communities, knowing you don't really have much to contribute. Like look at the many news posts, and random discussions.. Somebody has to take charge, and it's not going to be me.. I have so many things to do. My point is, there is low hope for any alt socmeds to reliably grow, if either the people that moved just.. move on from being chronically online or go back (to the big three), due to a multitude of reasons.

Conclusion

I think I'm just exhausted with my life, and that has permeated with my internet usage too. There's too many negative videos/posts that I have viewed, but there is much regret and procrastination outside. In conclusion..? I rambled for three paragraphs about Lemmy and the Fediverse, The Big Tech Social Medias, and the Philippines / Internet Culture..

Hope ya got something out of it!

I still use Reddit daily for browsing non-PH news and happenings, but I completely stopped posting. Every once in a while I'll try to comment something but delete it immediately after. I realized that replying and posting ate up a huge chunk of my time and often derail my momentum when working, so I don't really miss it. But at the same time, posting my thoughts is an outlet and it's also nice to revisit to see where my headspace was at a particular point. As an alternative, I just post it on my FB feed and set it to "Only Me".

It doesn't help that r/PH is a shit-show echo chamber now, mostly because of the users. Nakaka-turnoff yung mga matapobre, antinatalists, eugenicists, and low-effort threads. I haven't been there for a week pero pustahan mga posts diyan tungkol na naman sa pinipilit sila magperform sa Christmas Party tapos pag malapit na bagong taon sasabihin nila ang lakas lakas magpatunog ng tambutso hulugan naman daw yung motor. They're seriously just as bad as the bastards on FB's comment sections.

That said, I'm happy it all played out the way it did. I was able to get UndustFixation started, able to finish some of my PS5 backlogs, go out of the country for the first time since 2012, and I'm bonding with my daughter now through our shared interest in blind boxes (she got me into it actually lol).

Oh cool, yeah.. It's unavoidable to not use Reddit for anything these days anyway.. With how lemmy posts are still buried (either lemmy issue or search engine.. idk anymore).

As for the whole, thoughts.. I have an entire website and note/blog that is pretty much that, and I rarely share it since it's pretty much me in text form.. And yeah! Posting and commenting really interrupt a lot of things.. like rn.. I'm supposed to be doing something else, but I'm replying 'cause I found your comment interesting.

I haven't even taken a second to look at r/PH but from you and the other user, there seems to be the usual echo chamber that is the usual problem in reddit subreddits.. And the usual PH fb comment brainrot haha..

I'm happy for you though, It's nice knowing people live lives outside of these online spaces haha..

What separates Lemmy and Reddit is that you don't have to overthink what you post, lol. I can just say what I want and not worry about adding receipts to whatever I say, whether I got my facts right, or do I come off bad. If edits need to be made, you can go back later in the day when you're free because no one would be reading it until after a week anyway LMAO. I believe there are also logs that allow others to check what you edited. So while commenting here interrupts work, it doesn't take more than a few minutes to do unlike in Reddit when it would literally take half an hour or so.
