Assuming this is what happens, as opposed to the Dark Brotherhood being destroyed

Besides the initial turmoil from picking a new Emperor, the assassination probably helps the Empire. They were preparing for a new war with the Dominion so this gives them the chance for a new leader who can make more aggressive policies with the excuse of bringing the Empire under control. Unless the Thalmor have an alternative ready im which case they are screwed
