RollerCoasters

A place to talk about roller coasters and parks that have them. Everyone is welcome here to both learn and to celebrate these magnificent machines designed to scare you.

Here are some important resources:

  1. RCDB
  2. Thrill Data
  3. Coast2Coaster
  4. Terminology and Abbreviations

Images are welcome if they are of high quality and it doesn't get out of hand. Please use PostImages to upload your image and then use that link in the URL field of your post (other image sites are permitted but Post Images has the best policies and compatibility).

Some basic rules:

  1. Opinions, theories, and facts are all welcome – but be clear about what you’re saying.

  2. Back up facts with sources as much as possible

  3. No spam or sell-promotion. Linking to your own media or site is permissible only if it’s specifically related to a topic/post that someone else created.

  4. No photos or videos taken on the rides. This is dangerous and shouldn't be encouraged.

  5. Limit political discussion. When discussed it must be park related.

  6. No fictional coasters (models, no limits, planet coaster, etc)

  7. No posting personal information.

  8. No shaming of anyone. We all can continue to learn and not everyone knows everything -- and that's ok.

MODERATORS

I'm surprised and excited that this community already has some activity -- I honestly wasn't expecting that. I am new to Lemmy so I'm learning as we go. The instance that this community is running on is one I picked because it seems like the admin is intent on doing things right while being cautious not to overload things too quickly.

Images are limited to 100k on the instance which is great for thumbnails and avatars but if you want to post a full resolution photo I recommend using https://postimages.org/ and then linking to the photo from there.

RULES:

Rules of the community aren't set in stone right now but common sense is required. These are subject to change with the input of the community. I hope that we don't have to enforce anything but I wanted to give a few guidelines just in case:

  1. Opinions, theories, and facts are all welcome -- but be clear about what you're saying. Anything that is factual, please back up with a source (link is preferred but even at least stating what/who your source is). When it comes to opinions and theories everyone is welcome to share their thoguhts -- please respect each other.

  2. No spam or sell-promotion. Linking to your own media or site is permissible only if it's specifically related to a topic/post that someone else created. Creating a post in order to promote your platform Clickbait is not permitted in any fashion.

  3. Absolutely no photos or videos taken on the rides. Some rare exceptions might occur if specific permission was given and the scenario is unique (an event that happened while on the ride, etc) but parks are now pretty good about releasing POVs of their rides (linking to official videos is ok) and we don't want to encourage anyone to take their phones/cameras out on rides because it's extremely dangerous, against the park rules, and illegal in many states/jurisdictions.

  4. No misleading information. This could be considered an extension of point 1 but anything that is stated as fact and provably false will be removed.

  5. Limit political discussion. It would be nice if we could just say "no politics" but occasionally it does relate. In the instances where this is the case please be respectful of each other and remember that not everyone has the same view as you and it's ok that they don't.

  6. This community is based around real life roller coasters. Please save your own creations (Planet Coaster, RCT, Ultimate Ride, No Limits, etc) for other communities. This also extends to fictional roller coasters, etc.

  7. No posting/exchanging of personal information. This is just for everyone's protection. Lemmy has private messaging for this purpose.

  8. No shaming of anyone. Hardcore enthusiasts to the general public are all welcome here and should be treated with respect. Using the term "GP" in a derogatory manner won't be tolerated. Talking about your credit count is fine but this isn't a popularity contest. Share your wisdom, experiences, favorites, and even what you don't like but respect that not everyone is the same or likes the same thing.

If you're still with me, thank you for reading everything..... This is your community and the mods here want your input. We don't want to rule with an iron fist. The more active you are in conversations the more of a voice you have so please post, comment, and have fun.

@bobkmertz Just as a note, you can follow the community using a Mastodon account as well. Just search for [email protected] in your mastodon client/instance. For the best experience, of course, use a native Lemmy app.
