Go better, get a sarsaparilla. Many different root sodas to try, go to the nearest novelty soda shop or check online for small brand, real ingredient, glass bottle, root-based soda.

Edit: I don't know the availability of this stuff outside of the us, but it won't be hard to find in your closest large city worst case scenario. Ace hardware even has a small selection of "real" soda at checkout.

Ever had Moxie?

Personally I’m a Vernors ginger ale guy though (and makes a good float with homemade vanilla icecream too). A&W or one of the smaller batch places for root beer.

I love moxie. It has a very divisive taste though, everyone I've had try it either hates or loves it.

Love moxie. Only place I can get it is cracker barrel in my area. If it was sold in stores I'd have a vault of it in my home. If its local to you,crack one open for me wouldja?

I haven't had it in quite a while as the niche soda shop in my city closed down during the pandemic. I used to occasionally order a few cases of it once or twice a year, you could probably do that too. A bit expensive, but nice as a treat if you can't get it any other way. I don't remember where I used to get it, it was some novelty soda site, but it looks like there are some on amazon for a bit of an upcharge. https://www.amazon.com/Moxie-Soda-12-12oz-Cans/dp/B079G3P558

I am moving soon though, I'm hoping I can find a soda shop nearby so I can get them cheap. Next time I have one I'll drink it with you in spirit.
