In a live press conference on Tuesday morning, U.S. Soccer announced alongside the Washington Commanders that the USMNT will play Colombia on June 8th in a friendly at FedExField in Landover, Maryland. Kickoff will be at 5:37pm and will be broadcast on TNT, Telemundo, Universo, Max, and Peacock.

Is a historically strong position becoming an area of weakness? In an unusual turn of events, it seems that just as fans of the USMNT are seeing offensive output in Europe’s top leagues reach new levels, the center of the defense is taking some hits. It’s a real mixed bag for USMNT players in Europe, as some of our best offensive and midfield players are playing high impact soccer in the top leagues, scoring goals and making an impact. Meanwhile, some of the top centerbacks for the national team are making their way in the top league in the world, but that doesn’t mean the results are all positive. Tim Ream got beat for a tying goal last weekend, Chris Richards is being played all around the back with mixed results, and Auston Trusty’s Sheffield United are on a historically bad pace. There’s quite a bit to keep track of this weekend, so let’s get to it.

Will she assume a bigger role with the USWNT? Missing the cut for the World Cup is a great disappointment, compounded by the four-year gap between competitions that sees some players fall completely off of the radar. For many, timing can be unfair, although the women’s game has the added benefit of the Olympics serving as a senior competition and providing another opportunity for inclusion at a major tournament. Sam Coffey was on the outside looking in last year but appears to be trending toward a ticket to Paris next summer with inclusion on the CONCACAF W Gold Cup roster. The 25-year-old Portland Thorns midfielder is one of the top creators in the NWSL and should provide a real boost to the United States Women’s National Team moving forward.
