I’m a recent Lemmy convert and it’s my 1st post ever. It looks like a bunch are looking for Drunkenslug invites. To celebrate, I’ve got a couple invites to Drinkenslug I can give out, so if you’re still in the hunt for one, lmk!

Anyone feeling generous? This is an alternative account to keep things my activities separate (active on the forums) and protect privacy of others. Any offers emails go through a secure email provider (not a free provider).

I have an att reseller as my ISP, I just found I have access to newsfarm iad highwinds-media com

I haven't used usenet much since about 2009 or so I do know about indexers and have a newsbin license from way back when.

So the q's are ~~who is providing news servers to att~~, am I safe using them (considering I have to use my real isp login to access them) and who is a good indexer and backup news service if it is safe?

EDIT: Also, how do I tell if there are any limits on my service, My ISP's help chat person had no idea what usenet is, or that we had access to it.

Thanks!

I wanted to give Usenet a try so I installed NZBGet and found a provider and indexer. That said I don't know if I should edit any security settings even if I don't have port forwarding enabled on my network. I've changed the default username and password and I'm connecting through a VPN but that's about it.

Real new to this so my concern is knowing enough to mess myself over.

Any other tips would be appreciated as well!

I was wondering why people pay for index sites until I tried looking myself for example.

Does anyone have a DOGnzb invite to share, please?

I have NZBgeek and Tabula Rasa setup with readarr, but it seems to struggle to find most books. Any recommendations for indexers that handles eBooks better?

Looking for an invite to this site. Would be most grateful if anyone has one that they'd be willing to shoot my way. Happy to return the favour in any way that I'm able (except cash, not looking to buy an invite).

Cheers.

I know it's not the best indexer, but was still worth to add if you had a free account. It's been showing error 503 for a few days now. Gone for good?

Place to go? (self.usenet)

Now that the /r/usenet mods essentially killed off the community without creating an 'official' backup community I wonder where to go? This seems like the lemmy community with the most subscribers at least. Or are there any other places around?

Thankfully archive.org has fairly recent copies of all the information in the wiki.
