News / Random: Roblox copies of Splatoon head avatar items are currently circulating around

Ok, this is a funny one to make not gonna lie and I'm not sure whether there's much point talking about it.

Signed onto #Roblox earlier today (if you don't know, I used to be actively participating in the Roblox community) and I noticed a friend looking like Marie from Splatoon (with matching hair) and I then stumbled across a #UGC group called "cubicle 2" which seems to specialise on these Splatoon copies.

If you're out of the loop from the Roblox community, UGC headwear using other companies intellectual property is fairly common unfortunately. I'd recommend checking out PeakUGC on the unspeakable platform if you want to see it. UGC is currently closed access by the way, you have to request permission to upload headgear and other types of content (shirts and pants are available to anyone, but the rest you need to be a member of the UGC program).

News / Nintendo Network Shutdown: Contribute SpotPass data now!

If you're familiar with the #WiiU and #3DS, you may know that SpotPass is one of the key components of the online services (particularly back when both consoles were still actively supported).

SpotPass will cease to exist once Nintendo Network shuts down and revival services such as @pretendo will need SpotPass data for some online services to function properly. Right now, data for SpotPass can be insufficient in places and in order to make sure it still works properly, they need your dumps.

If you have a unmodded/modded Wii U console or a modded 2DS/3DS console, please visit https://spotpassarchive.github.io/ to learn how to dump your data now. It's quick and easy to do and it won't take long. I did it personally myself last night

News / Nintendo Network Shutdown: OatmealDome's Splatoon rotations server will stop showing data once the servers shut down

Some of you may use https://splatoon.oatmealdome.me to stay up to date with Splatoon 1 rotations. If you are, please note that from April 9th at 12am BST, it will no longer fetch data due to the Nintendo Network Shutdown.

OatmealDome has currently not gotten an agreement with @pretendo to continue displaying rotation data as far as we can tell.

I'm not currently aware of any other site that displays rotations, the person behind @splatoon3ink (@mattisenhower) only seems to operate rotation data for Splatoon 2 and Splatoon 3, it doesn't seem likely that Splatoon 1 data will come anytime soon.

Squids and mayors, @pretendo needs your help!

As you all know, at 11pm tonight, we will be just 2 weeks out from the closure of online services for both the #WiiU and #3DS.

Pretendo has already done an inkredible job at preserving our favourite games to play online once servers shut down. However, they're missing vital information relating to SpotPass for games such as Splatoon (as well as its various demos), Animal Crossing Happy Home Designer, Nintendo Badge Arcade and Super Mario Maker (both Wii U and 3DS versions).

Just wanted to give a small update, since lemmy.world's updated to 0.19.x, it looks like the bot's running into some issues now!

I'll need to see if I can get it fixed, but currently if you don't see any new posts from it, that's probably why.

News / Piracy: Be cautious when buying used copies of Splatoon 2 or 3 online now

I'm probably going to start this post that I am 100% fearmongering and it's probably not as bad as I'm going to make it out to be here.

It's extremely unlikely you'll ever run into this scenario but I want to make you aware.

Late last year, you might have heard some talk about a tool that enabled people to play backups of games using a flashcart. The creators behind this tool are now releasing a dumper tool which allows people to backup their games without any special skills.

Backing up your game does sound like a good idea, but it's a problem when people resell it. You might no longer want the game one day and you sell it online but keep it on this flashcart. If the buyer of that game and the original owner through their flashcart play the game at the same time, they run a risk of getting banned from online services on their Switch.

(p.s. it's also worth noting that legally, backups may not be legal in some countries)

I know this is a very unlikely chance that anything will ever happen from this, I just want to warn you all.

A new #Splatfest track is on its way featuring Pearl and Marina from Off the Hook and Shiver and Frye from Deep Cut (Big Man was apparently too starstruck today 😂, Shiver and Frye are known as Fire & Ice in the track).

The name for this song is Suffer No Fools and Nintendo has helpfully provided some lyrics if you want to listen along to what looks to be a rap battle.

Throughout today, the Full Stream Ahead Challenge will be taking place! In this #challenge, your objective is to stampede over your opponents with brushes and roller. The rules for this challenge are that you can only select rollers and brushes, all players will have increased ink speed and ink consumption whilst inking will be increased as well.

For this rotation, the mode is Splat Zones and the maps will be Um'ami Ruins and Robo ROM-en.

News / Streams: Two Course Meal for Palestine Day 2

As you might have seen me post yesterday, Splatoon content creator ProChara has organised a fundraiser for the Palestine Children's Relief Fund.

After doing some further research (which included contacting Chara), I just wanted to share with you what's happening on Day 2 if you'd like to watch the event or participate in it and support children in Palestine.

From 5pm GMT today, 101 teams (currently, possibly will end up being higher) will compete in a double elimination bracket tournament to help raise money for Palestine.

Teams of 4 have a $30 budget for them to choose weapons for all their team from (note that this doesn't involve any real life transactions though) and they cannot exceed it. A tier list of weapon prices are attached below if you're interested.

If teams make it to a podium position, artists in the community will be drawing art for them by the looks of it.

If you'd like to take part in the event, entries are still open until 3:45pm GMT.
