Quilting

Done on my domestic machine. Getting a lot better at binding, still not quite straight but really proud

I'm a little embarrassed to post this since I'm a beginner, but I'm pretty happy to have finished this table runner. This is my very first attempt at free motion quilting! I'm not very experienced with applique either, but I do like the 3D effect from the dense quilting around the shapes.

I am wondering though, does anyone have advice for transferring the pattern to the fabric? I used tracing paper, but it was very hard to see the lines on the dark blue, and it wore off easily. I've used iron on designs before and that worked great on light fabrics, but what do you use on a dark background?

It's weird but since quitting Reddit I feel like I lost all the connections in my life. I'm glad to be here with y'all, and I look forward to sharing more! I've been in a rut and seeing your beauties has inspired me to dust off the ole sewing machine and finish up my newest kitty's portrait.

I have this really nice and very fluffy wool batting that I purchased at a Sheep and Wool festival. Only problem is I am extremely nervous about bearding. I really want a very warm blanket for the very cold days.

Does anyone have any experience using this type of batting? I am almost wondering if I should sandwich it between two thin layers of cotton or linen?

Working on my backlog of 10-ish quilt tops that need to be quilted.

Long-arm is rental via Spring Water Designs in Columbia,MD. Not affiliated, they are a nice shop that really is helpful even to new quilters.

Took me 4 hours to load and quilt 10 squares of 30! Indecision was mine. I should have had a quilt plan before I arrived and should not have fussed trying to get the center seam in back dead center with top.

This one took a minute! I ended up using 9 different colors of thread and free-handed the stars on my domestic machine. Very happy with it

This is my version of the layout done by Tula Pink. Hers was in a charcoal background. I did this quilt in 2019 in a similar colorway, so chose this white background for Pythia time instead. I loved her floating block design which kept me going with block sets that were frankly boring compared to others who had colorful backgrounds that accented each shape. Tula didn’t have a border between the outer trees and houses, and didn’t need one. As I watched mine go on the wall, I felt it needed something to break up all that white. I figured out I could adjust the tree as well as the tall and short house cutting an inch and a quarter of finished size to add a strip to sets of 4 or 5 outer blocks. It kept my block count and finished top size the same as Tula’s example. Anyway, I’m really happy with my finish!

Felt like I was battling the machine most of the time, but made it through! Sewn completely on my (uncooperative but cherished) treadle Singer 66.

I made this tiny top a couple of years ago and got stuck on how to quilt it. It’s a design by Sarah Bond who shrunk her original bed size version of this to this 24 inch wall hanging size.

As she said in the live virtual class I took, it takes just as long to make the mini, but I’m thrilled with the finish. I have a local long arm quilter who I trust to just take charge. I think she did a marvelous job!

It’s now hanging in my office at work, and gives me joy when I remember to look away from my computer screen.

I’ve finally learned how to block quilts, and think I’ll take the time to do so on this one later, but I think it’s good enough for now.

Howdy all! I run a quilt guild on discord, and we do some fun events like 'Round Robin' (Everyone sends a block to a person, and they receive another block - and it keeps going until you get yours back.) This is my entry for this year's. Do you do any fun things involving quilting?

All the blocks were hand sewn, and then I got a 1937 Singer 201 for my birthday so sashing and borders were done on that.
