Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

As you can tell from the 1 visitor average per day for the last year (aka. me lol), this community is pretty much dead. No one is reading this as well, but in case you wander here while bored — I'm sticking a fork on Lemmy PH. No more monthly threads or news posts, at least from me.

It started out strong and was brimming with potential, but once r/PH reopened, 90% of the posters made a beeline back to the sub. The rest who decided to stick, slowly packed their bags as well. I don't appreciate being made a joke in Discord, but hey, such is life and the reality of protests.

Thanks for giving this community a shot! It was a fun first month or so! I'm focusing my attention to UndustFixation now, which has been keeping me busy outside of work, actually. Stay safe!

Edit: Shout out to u/gradenko_2000 who saw the protests as performative and took it a step further by not going back to Reddit at all and refusing repeated invites to Lemmy.

MANILA — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) will penalize sellers and buyers up to P40,000 for failing to report sales and transfer vehicle registrations within days of the transaction, a policy that could affect thousands using secondhand cars and motorcycles.

Revolutionary. Props to Youtube.

I guess Alphabet was the 1st to have the auto-generated English subtitle feature? I think Youtube is the only 1 that has Filipino now. Windows 11 and Samsung oneui have the auto-generated English subtitle feature now. I hope they'll have Filipino.

Government data shows that just one of the smaller “flagship” projects was completed this year, while the rest have languished in their preparatory stages since at least 2018.

The DPWH also reported that 70 percent of Metro Manila’s “antiquated drainage system” was clogged with rubbish and silt, hampering flood management. It also reported that the country lacks a national flood control master plan, with only 18 scattered plans for major river basins which are “still being currently updated”.

I just visited it to see what I was missing and thinking if I should go back.

There’s way more political talk than I remember! I got sad from all what the VP is doing (or not doing)!

Then I got shocked by a post that says biko is one of the top 5 worst PH foods!

While I prefer more of the 2nd topic, even if I disagree with it, it is few and far between all the politics.

I am staying put.

The Philippines, which has thousands of islands, dumps the most plastic into the sea. Its Pasig River, which flows into Manila Bay, is "the most (plastic) polluted" in the world.

Former Palawan governor Joel Reyes, accused as the brains in the 2011 murder of broadcaster and environmentalist Gerry Ortega, surrendered to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Wednesday, according to the Presidential Task Force on Media Security.

The PTFoMS confirmed Reyes’ surrender to the NBI’s National Capital Region office on the night of Sept. 11.

Further details regarding the surrender have yet to be released by the NBI and the task force.

Ortega, a critic of Reyes, was shot and killed on Jan. 24, 2011, in a thrift shop in Puerto Princesa, Palawan after completing his radio program.

The journalist frequently criticized local politicians, including Reyes, whom he accused of corruption and allowing the exploitation of Palawan’s natural resources.

Reyes, who fled the country in 2012 alongside his brother, then-Coron mayor Mario, was apprehended in Thailand in 2015.

I hope lemmy posters do not engage in character assasination (of the poster). Well here it goes:

I am a supporter of Leni. With that in mind, here are my thoughts.

I don’t know if I have become jaded, or just got too old. It’s starting to become harder to imagine how it could be better. It’s not so bad. I still work, pay taxes, and just live.

I don’t know how Leni would handle the issue with China. I don’t know how Leni will deal with the sinking value of the peso. Will she be able to improve education? What about the businesses that died during the pandemic? Or the movie industry? I walk around and see cinema houses a mere shadow of their former selves.

With the pandemic, everything changed. I don’t know how a good leader will turn things around. Is BBM not doing the best he can? While I still prefer Leni and Kiko to be president and vice president, I don’t know what a better future looks like anymore. Are we just going through the motions and just want to live another day? There are no magic bullets to solve our problems. What does a REALISTIC better world supposed to look like?

Maybe I’m just sad and depressed, but these are my thoughts relating to the Philippines. I want some conversations about this, and am hoping to not be attacked for it.
