Mabuhay at maligayang pag-alis sa Lemmy! ✈️

An abandoned community for the Philippines and all things Filipino! 🇵🇭

Started out as a Reddit alternative during the blackout from Jun 12-21, 2023 with over 1k members in just a few days. Fizzled faster than the "I Didn't Do It" kid after a month until it became the internet's Centralia in less than a year.

“Hindi rin namin ginusto na mapunta kami sa kustodiya ng mga militar. Hindi rin totoo ‘yung laman ng affidavit dahil ginawa ‘yun, pinirmahan ‘yun sa loob ng kampo ng militar. Wala na kaming magagawa sa mga pagkakataon na ‘yun,” Castro said. (We didn’t choose to be under military custody. The contents of the affidavits are not true because those were made, those were signed inside the military camp. We didn’t have any choice at the time.)

“That night, on September 2, we were walking on the road when someone abducted us,” Tamano said in Filipino, recounted the events leading to their abduction. “An SUV stopped in front of us, took us away, and coerced us to come with them. That’s the truth. We thought it was a syndicate. But they know us. And then…” Tamano exhaled and didn’t finish her sentence.

“It kind of goes both ways. I don’t really know the depth of the situation pero I think we’re in the position to entertain people. In some ways, they could be offending others, and (to) some, just a joke or no harm. For me, we just got to be careful on what we do,” he said.

“Kung ano 'yung klaseng situation 'yung ginagawa natin kailangang mag-ingat lang tayo kasi there’s kids watching. Kids probably won’t understand it that way pero other people will say ‘hey, hey, panget 'yan',” he added.

According to the two watchdogs, there is nothing illegal and surprising about the use of a single private IP address because it’s common practice.

The rationale behind it: the number of IP addresses out there is not infinite. Designers just did not anticipate that billions of devices would one day connect to the public internet.

To address this, corporations and telcos use a legitimate technique called Network Address Translation (NAT) to map IP addresses reserved for private use to a public IP address.

Namfrel further laid out the likely scenario on election day last year: a telco service provider (TSP) allocated a block of public IP addresses. Modems with the private IP address connected with the TSP’s infrastructure, and subsequently assigned a unique public IP address for the transmission of election returns. When the process was completed, the said unique public IP address was released and reassigned to another modem that needed to connect.

MANILA, Philippines – Pope Francis has dismissed from the priesthood Father Pio Aclon of Borongan, Eastern Samar, for alleged sex abuse, the news service of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) reported on Sunday, September 17.

The Pope expelled Aclon “for sexual abuse involving minors,” said CBCP News, which noted that Aclon “last served at a minor seminary in Borongan before the diocese suspended him from his clerical duties.”

Earlier on Sunday, the Diocese of Borongan released a July 18 announcement that stated: “Notice is hereby given that the Holy Father Pope Francis has dismissed from the clerical state PIO CULTURA ACLON of the Diocese of Borongan. He is, therefore, no longer a cleric and cannot exercise priestly ministry in the Church.”

“We are witnessing a growing interest for investments in the MIF (Maharlika Investment Fund) from multilateral financial institutions and foreign investors. With the regulatory requirements in place, and after securing the seed capital from state-run institutions, we are confident that the fund will be operational by year-end,” said Diokno in a statement on Friday, September 15.

MANILA, Philippines – The Facebook page of SMNI News, the media arm of Pastor Apollo Quiboloy’s megachurch The Kingdom of Jesus Christ, has become unavailable.

As of Friday morning, September 15, the URL facebook.com/SMNINews says, “This content isn’t available right now.” This message appears if privacy settings prevent a certain user from accessing the content, or if the content has been deleted.

Before it became inaccessible, SMNI News had around 2.3 million followers and 960,000 likes on Facebook earlier in September.

This comes after Quiboloy’s Facebook was removed from the platform in August this year. Meta later confirmed that his Facebook page was deleted in line with the company’s Dangerous Organizations and Individuals policy, as Quiboloy is currently facing US Executive Order (EO) 13818 sanctions for “serious human rights abuse.”

“Kung hindi mo kayang i-respeto ang mga katrabaho mo, i-respeto mo man lang sana ang paggasta ng pera ng bayan. Higit isang linggo na simula nang naghearing tungkol sa confidential funds, pero mas marami ka pang patutsada kaysa sa paliwanag,” Hontiveros said. (If you can’t respect your colleagues, you should respect how public funds should be spent. It’s over week since we held hearing on the use of confidential funds, yet you have more personal attacks than explanation.)
