Did you keep playing once you completed the Omega Expedition?

I decided to build out my base on Nash 33/W4. It has an S-Class Sodium mine and all of the crops except NipNip. It is mostly built with stone with some prefab structures.

I actually hit the base part limit and had to back off so it could still be uploaded.

It's built into the nearby landscape...

A portion of the base is under ground but I did not use the Terrain Manipulator so I don't have to worry about it filling in later...

It sits across from a crashed freighter...

Now, I will probably take a break for a little bit until the next major update.

Note: This is NOT the rewards eggs. These three eggs are from critters that I found out in the wild, fed, petted and looked after until they were ready to drop an egg. Only it's not letting me transfer any companion eggs, regardless of the source.

Usually on expeditions, if I come across an interesting or cute critter that I want on my main save, I'll get an egg from it and, after the expedition has ended, pass the egg(s) to my spouse (we always play expeditions multiplayer together), reload into my main save and have him transfer back to me.

With this expedition and the new transfer mechanics, we were celebrating not having to do the giving each other stuff and reloading to transfer. Only, I can't transfer eggs that I got from creatures along the way. We started the expedition from our main saves (to see what that was like) rather than starting a new save like we used to.

We also tried the method of me passing the eggs to spouse, swapping to the main save and then spouse giving them back but that doesn't work because as soon as he tries to join my game, it starts the expedition for him again.

Is there any way I can transfer these? Or is my only recourse to back track through a heaps of systems to the planets I got these critters from and get the portal glyphs to then travel there after I've swapped back to my main save? :/

EDIT; I also just noticed I can't transfer the Memories either - I usually like to keep these sorts of things in storage containers as 'souvenirs' of expeditions :(

The Expedition desk in the Anomaly is pretty slick, but if you collect stuff with wild abandon during an expedition (don't we all?) you will have some interesting questions to answer at the end!

The mechanism is: You claim all the rewards, including the new ship for completing all 5 phases, which, you have to be outside of your ship to claim, so proooooooobably you will do this in the Anomaly. Then head for the Expedition desk, where you can click and confirm that you want to end the expedition (it will warn you that you have incomplete optional tasks). That will open up the "transfer back to main save" storage. Which is interesting because: it isn't any larger than when you started. So if you started Omega from your main save and brought a bunch of stuff over, and you didn't use that stuff (I brought 40 repair kits, for example), then you have to decide if restoring those items to your main save is more important than bringing back any new stuff you collected (memories. hyaline brains, anomaly detectors, storage augmentation, lots of expedition related items with way more value than another 5000 carbon).

Once you've made all of those decisions, you again click to "finalize expedition". At this point, it will convert anything you aren't transferring back into units, nanites, or quicksilver! There is a nice display that lists a bunch of statistics, see screenshot (assuming I've attached it correctly). This is a good reason to max out your expedition suit and ship storage and Do all The Things.

One curiosity: Since I've got thousands of hours in this game, I am always running close to MAXINT units in the bank, so the calculation of how many units I earned bailed out when it hit the threshold, and just says -1. HOPEFULLY when I click this here button, I will still have my billions...if it actually resets my units to negative 4B...uh that's a bug.

On the other hand: 20k nanites and 9k quicksilver?! Hell yes!

Verdict: It's not perfect but I really like the new expedition desk and the whole "bring your ship and MT and a handful of stuff with you" capability.

PSA if you use the Anomaly desk to start the expedition from your main save:

spoiler

  • You will not have immediate access to all the stuff you add to the shared expedition inventory. So don't bother adding metal plates, a hermetic seal, dihydrogen jelly, etc. because you will have to work through all the usual beginning steps to fix your ship and get off world.
  • You will be able to return to the Anomaly about halfway through Phase 1, right after your first warp to a new system.
  • BUT like with all the other expeditions, there are a handful of later phase milestones you can knock off quickly right from the initial system (or even the initial planet).
  • For the base building milestone early in Phase 1, DO stash stuff in your ship so you have 9 empty slots in your exosuit. The base computer will give you everything you need to start your base and check this milestone off, but only if you have enough space for it to give you the parts.
  • Scan everything, you will pick up the flora and fauna scan rewards quickly; dig up mineral deposits, ancient artifacts, buried caches, those all count for the lost treasure milestone (salvageable scrap does not seem to count here?). Blast asteroids. Learn words. The usual. Oh, and grind grind grind for nanites constantly, because:
  • once you reach the anomaly, you will need a bunch of nanites. From the Expedition desk, you can clone whatever your then-current multitool and ship were before you started the expedition, but you'll need 2,200 for the MT and 2,800 for the ship.
  • Similarly, if you want to grab previous expedition rewards, say, the Golden Vector, with the thought of maybe packaging up its modules to sell for more nanites (for example), well, it will cost you 1,400 nanites to pick up the ship :/ I also don't know what happens to the GV in your main save inventory if you acquire and then scrap a GV in the expedition, and I'm not sure I want to risk it. I will try to sell the mods for nanites though...once I have enough to acquire it!
  • oooh! you will pick up various modules as you progress through the milestones, like usual, and if you are like me, you will not immediately apply them, since you will pick up a better ship/MT later in the expedition, more than likely. Well! If you started from your main save, you know you will get your main save ship and MT, so you can scrap all those scanner modules and such right away. That goes to the top of the to do list, I tell you hwat...

Happy exploring, travelers!

I decided to start a new save and forgo the new expedition feature in the Anomaly. I feel like part of the fun is starting from scratch and finding shortcuts to get units, complete milestones, etc. Plus I often play my expedition saves even after the expedition is over.

I made it to Phase 3 before I quit playing today. Overall I like the expedition. Nothing has been particularly annoying but I guess that could change in the next phases.

How's it going for everyone else?

The Galactic Hub Project

Largest & Oldest Active Civilization

11,000+ Player Bases, 77,000+ Subreddit Subscribers, 12,000+ Discord Members

The Galactic Hub Project, founded October 2016, is Euclid's multiplayer hotspot. With a greater concentration of players than anywhere else in No Man's Sky, there's no better location to experience Civilized Space gameplay!

A few of our features include:

  • Chapters - The Galactic Hub has a variety of sub-organizations called Chapters, like the GH Exobiology Corps (focused on fauna), the GH Defense Force (focused on defense & combating griefers), the GH Star League (focused on hosting multiplayer "simulation sports" competitions), & more!

  • Colonies - In the Hub, colonies are communities of multiple players collaborating in some way. This always includes building bases, which are often built under the same theme. Colonies may be as big as a whole system, or as small as a single trade post. The most active colonies are managed by Governors. Governors are interlopers who volunteer to run a colony. A governor's main focus is keeping their colony active - this often involves writing missions or hosting events for their colonists. Some colonies even have Mayors, which manage even smaller communities known as Territories within a Colony. Anyone may set up their own colony in Hub space and act as a Governor!

  • Multiplayer Events - From laid-back Social Nights to the NMS take on eSports Star League, the Galactic Hub has multiplayer social events nearly every week - sometimes multiple each week. Come meet your neighbors!

  • Economy - The GH has its own native currency, HubCoin. It is rewarded exclusively for activity representing the Galactic Hub on various platforms (Reddit, Discord, Wiki, YouTube). HubCoin is never available for sale for dollars, pounds, etc - "real world money" is never required or involved. HubCoin is used to facilitate a metagame economy. For example, to earn coin, players can open their own Businesses with in-game locations in Hub space. To spend coin, players might browse our Discord server's Marketplace and buy goods like custom ships, custom companions, services-of-convenience (ie construction materials), or even 100%-free real-world Hub merch. (Real-world merch availability may vary.)

  • Canonization - Hello Games was kind enough to canonize the Galactic Hub. In other words, we're official in-game content! The "Pilgrim" title can only be unlocked by visiting our old capital planet, New Lennon. Our emblem can be purchased at the QuickSilver store as a base decal or player banner. We're also referenced in the Mission Board and the dialogue of a Traveller, as well as being referenced in the Waking Titan ARG!

That's just a quick look at some of our features. We also have interactions with other civilizations, we're a founding member of the United Federation of Travelers, and much more - but above all else, what really defines the Galactic Hub is our thriving and friendly community. Join us and find your new home in the stars!

I've been playing NMS for a long time so I'm no stranger to updates destroying my bases, but I'm used to it happening during major updates. This came out of no where.

I haven't played since the last major Update and Expedition, but I thought I would log in to check on things before the next Update and Expedition were announced. I did not expect to find one of my cave bases in disarray.

Before you ask, no, I didn't use the terrain manipulator, I simply built the base into an existing cave and along the mountainside. Other bases I've checked seem fine so I'm not sure why this one was impacted.

Did this happen to anyone else or am I just lucky?

When I first found it, it did also give an entered building message, but I haven't managed to test it in a storm. I'm currently distracted in my Permadeath run looking for more of these ... structures?

Alerts for expeditions? (self.nomanssky)

I tend to not hear about expeditions until it's too late... does anyone know of a way to get email or push notifications for upcoming expeditions?

Down to my last task ("Hot Blooded"). Even though there wasn't much plot in Voyagers, this was one of my favourite Expeditions the first time around. I remember the first time around, I got stuck on finding a suitably hostile world, but I think in this Redux, the "Eternal Garden" (paradise world), "Unwelcome" (hostile > 84%), "Corrosive Blood" (creature with low blood pH), and lots of others were completed in the starting system.

I figure I just need to go back to the hotter worlds and start scanning critters I missed the first pass, and I'll be done.

One thing I liked about the first run of Voyagers is that there was almost two months to do it the first time around. It was billed as "relaxing" and it was. I nearly took the full two months, but I swapped back and forth between my main save and Voyagers, until I finished with a week to go (trouble with "Unwelcome" as I recall). This Redux is 10 days, which is longer than the other Redux ones, and they seem to have strategically placed the Rendezvous to help complete, but a little bit longer would have been a little bit nicer. Or at least more relaxed.

👾 Introduction 👾

Unification Day is a semi-canon, semi-fanmade holiday, which has historically involved civilizations across the simulation. If you're unfamiliar with the history of Unification Day, you're encouraged to learn more about it here!

This year, Unification Day has been organized as a 28-hour base tour with a variety of activities and social events. That means there is no single "Unification Day System" as in past years. We believe this will provide an ideal format to highlight the builds which civilizations put the most time, effort, and spirit into: those in their home-space claims.

While the holiday is all about celebrating civilized space, Unification Day is not a holiday exclusive to members of civilizations. If you're a lone traveler looking to try out some new activities and meet some new people, you're just as welcome here as anyone else!

⏱️ Schedule ⏱️

A current copy of the schedule can be found here. All times are in UTC. Locations will be added soon.

The schedule is still being discussed by the Unification Day Planning Council (the heads / staff of involved civilizations). All scheduled events are subject to change for at least the next week. I'll post any updates in both the Discord server and future Unification Day Reddit posts.

The schedule includes exocraft races, starship PVP, on-foot team deathmatches in a city-sized PVP map, a huge variety of minigames like shield wrestling and a maze escape, art and museum tours, and tons of social events and general base tours. The goal was to represent as many civilizations as possible while also providing the greatest variety of activities as possible.

⚠️ Rules ⚠️

All rules apply to both voice chat and regular messages.

  1. No discriminatory, toxic, or otherwise un-fun content. No slurs, no putting down other players' builds (unless constructive criticism is requested), no harassment, no irl politics, etc.
  2. Don't start drama. This is Unification Day, get unified or move on!
  3. No uninvited PVP. (Remember to turn your PVP off outside of events anyway, just to be safe.)
  4. No excessive terrain manipulator use.
  5. No excessively massive pets.

6. ❗❗❗DO NOT BUILD A BASE IN ANY UNIFICATION DAY SYSTEM WITHOUT CONTACTING THAT CIVILIZATION'S LEADER FIRST.❗❗❗

Uploading bases in any of these systems could result in negative impacts for that civilization, like decreased rendering reliability or even the entire base no longer showing for visitors. These civilizations are trying to provide a fun time for everyone, please respect their space

I'm still pretty new to the game. I've tried two of the expeditions—Utopia this month and I believe Singularity earlier this year—but didn't make it very far through either (via a combination of not starting them early enough and, for Singularity, barely knowing how to play the game). I don't have a lot of time over the holiday this year and I'm still trying to decide if I should attempt Cartographer or not. I probably wouldn't be able to start it until after Christmas if I do—is it doable in just a few days?

I started my save within an hour of the expedition going live. And spawned in a storm, with multiple hostile critters. I died twice in two minutes, deleted the cursed save, and tried again. Did better, but fell into a cave system killing critters (with a mining laser), and got lost… before I could build the Terrain Manipulator. After 20 minutes, I deleted the cursed save, and started again. Third time's the charm! Much better start, even grabbed some Storm Crystals for later right at the start.

Needed to get some work done, but I've gotten a couple of hours in since yesterday, steady progress, having fun stumbling around, but I can see I'm going to get stuck looking for Crystal Sulphide. I don't think I'm anywhere near the ocean, although I see 3 underwater creatures on this world so there must be some somewhere. I've got the Minotaur built, but that doesn't seem the best way to search for ocean, it's a little slow. If only I had a spaceship… oh wait, that's what the Crystal Sulphide's for.

Also, got killed again, by one of those evil teddy bears that jumped me while I was killing a couple of the crystal spider dudes. Was close to my base, but still! Embarrassing.

There is finally an update for the Mac that opens up the Utopia expedition. It is about 3gb. I got it downloaded today and had just enough time at work to get it finished.

"Hello Everyone!

Another busy year for No Man’s Sky is drawing to a close, and this holiday season we are pleased to revisit our tradition of running remixed editions of this year’s expeditions.

Across the following dates, 2023’s community expeditions will be available once more, taking place in new sections of the universe, offering explorers another opportunity to experience these stories and events and earn exclusive rewards.

In addition to the 2023 expeditions, we are also bringing back a limited run of the community favourite Cartographers, from 2021. The bundle of rewards includes some of the most popular items from across a number of past expeditions, including the coveted Golden Vector starship – an exciting opportunity for players who missed out on the chance to earn these rewards during the original expedition runs."

The link then provides examples of the content which can be unlocked during these Expeditions.

Good journeys travelers!

I have been playing NMS via GOG off and on since release day. I completed the first expedition and then have not played another one until the most recent three, which I did on my PS5, and the most recent one I did also on Mac via Steam. I have been looking forward to playing older expeditions I missed in years prior, plus being able to have them done on both Steam and PS5.

But in looking at the last two years both times the expedition replays started in November. I am slowly losing hope that I will get to play them this year.
