a few years ago , i was lucky enough to work on the Robotech movie. unfortunately this never got to production. it was just a joy to work on and thought id put up a two part post of some of the ideas created for it. the scale was epic and this could have been fantastic. alas it wasnt meant to be.

Dubbed “The Can Opener” (for obvious reasons), this ship, with its hardened fore fins, can tear into an enemy hull like, well, a can opener.

What if Earth itself was the spaceship to save humanity?
Bit of a background explanation:
After the redesign of the space station made by the director's team during the shoot, they were able to add Wu Jing to the actors. Which meant that the space station sequence had to be boosted in length and importance. So the space station model that they had was not adequate anymore, and they came back to our team to make sure the details would be believable. Since it was a very rushed job because they already started working on VFX, I did basic sketches with material indications of pieces of the station, one piece at the time in order to give new informations every day.
