In reaction to a post by @[email protected] it is my pleasure to introduce you to one of the most incredible visual artists I have ever seen!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zdzis%C5%82aw_Beksi%C5%84ski

He's a legend and his inspiration reaches far and wide, like Lovecraft was on literature. Some artists I like who take after him include Dariusz Zawadzki and Boris Groh. I had meant to post some, but I also thought "damn, this sub might as well just be /c/beksiński".

Just popped in to say the community icon brought me here! For those that don't know, that is the album cover for "The Burden of Restlessness" by King Buffalo. Definitely worth checking out IMHO!

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kodama_(spirit)

Kodama (木霊, 木魂 or 木魅) are spirits in Japanese folklore that inhabit trees. The term is also used to denote a tree in which a kodama supposedly resides. The phenomenon known as yamabiko, when sounds make a delayed echoing effect in mountains and valleys, is sometimes attributed to this kind of spirit and may also be referred to as "kodama".

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kuntilanak

"The Kuntilanak (Indonesian name), also called Pontianak (Malay name), is a mythological creature in Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. It is similar to Langsuir in other Southeast Asia regions. The Pontianak usually takes the form of a pregnant woman who is unable to give birth to a child. Alternatively, it is often described as a vampiric, vengeful female spirit. Another form of the Pontianak refers to the ghost or white lady of Southeast Asian folklore."

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_hag

"The night hag or old hag is the name given to a supernatural creature, commonly associated with the phenomenon of sleep paralysis. It is a phenomenon during which a person feels a presence of a supernatural malevolent being which immobilizes the person as if sitting on their chest or the foot of their bed. The word "night-mare" or "nightmare" was used to describe this phenomenon before the word received its modern, more general meaning.Various cultures have various names for this phenomenon and/or supernatural character."

In Norse mythology, mara, or mare, or, you know, nightmare.

In Japanese mythology, kanashibari, or yume no seirei.

In Thailand, Phi Am.

To the Hmong, dab stag.

Bonus artwork, but blurry. Wish I could find a better copy.
