Bats are cool

Bats are the only true flying mammals. There are over 1,400 species of bats, and they can be found on nearly every part of the planet. Not only are they cute, they are also important...

Studying how bats use echolocation has helped scientists develop navigational aids for the blind. Without bats’ pollination, seed dispersal, and pest control we wouldn’t have bananas, avocados, mangoes, agave, or cacao… that’s right, bats bring us tequila and chocolate!

Our community's mascot is Baxter. Baxter is an Egyptian fruit bat that was cruelly kept alone and confined to a small cage for 12 years before being rescued by a bat sanctuary. You can read the full story by clicking on his name.

This is most likely a Mexican long-tongue bat. It could potentially be the tube-lipped nectar bat, but they have a protruding, funnel-like bottom lip, which I'm not seeing here.

Source 1 and Source 2.

Please note that I found some reports of agave plants pollinated during the day, but most reputable source tend to agree that they are primarily pollinated during the night and primarily by bats, although there are other pollinators like moths.

Here are some other instances of oral sex in non-humans - but we don't have enough data to say whether it occurs regularly during sex:

There are few observations of fellatio in non-human animals. Oral sex was found as a play behaviour between juvenile males or between juvenile female and juvenile male bonobos Pan paniscus.

Schürmann observed that a female orangutan, Pongo pygmaeus, often interrupted copulation for a short while, manipulating her mate's penis with her hand, licking it or putting it in her mouth before mounting again. It is plausible that this female's behavior increased male arousal.

In general, many animals may lick genitals before and after copulation, for example, the male of ring-tailed lemur, Lemur catta, often licks the genitals of the female in order to judge whether she is in oestrous, and after copulation, he also licks his penis.

Both male and female Livingstone's fruit bats (Pteropus livingstonii) also licked the genitals of their partners during heterosexual interactions.

However, because of the limited details provided, we do not know whether fellatio occurs during copulation in these species.
