Accidental Tech Podcast (ATP) is an absolutely fantastic Apple/Development podcast. Loaded with Vision Pro insight and news if you’re interested.

Strings found in the developer beta of visionOS suggest that Vision Pro will require entering a “Travel Mode” to operate on an airplane. This mode requires the user to remain stationary, disables the realtime digital persona representation, and disables ‘some awareness features.’

The text strings also include a message warning that the current fit could reduce gaze accuracy, though it is unclear if this is related at all to travel mode or simply poor headset fit.

Personally, I’m curious if travel mode will increase battery life by any significant amount. With the 2 hour battery life cutting things close when watching a movie, extending that runtime to 3 hours or so would be excellent. It will remain to be seen how much Vision Pro sacrifices in travel mode, and how this affects the experience.

Apple has released their visionOS SDK allowing developers to begin creating experiences for Vision Pro. Apple also promises that next month it will make Unity app porting tools available to developers, allowing them to more easily transition existing VR experiences to Apple’s platform.

According to The Information, Apple chose not to include these and many more apps because they are simply not working yet. Vision Pro apps and functions said to have been either postponed or dropped completely include: Tai Chi app, Nike workout, Yoga, Gaming where precision control is needed, Running Mac apps, and Augmented or 3D Apple TV+ content

Curious to hear others' thoughts. Obviously we're more likely to disagree here and find value in the product, but were there any criticisms you found accurate? Is this this device 'for you,' or are you just curious about it?
