Ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl LVIII clash between defending champions the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, AEW boss and Jacksonville Jaguars executive Tony Khan spoke with former NFL MVP Cam Newton on his "4th and 1" podcast. Towards the end of the interview, Khan suggested he should try to get the former Heisman Trophy winner and current NFL free agent to perform in an AEW ring. Newton responded with, "I will not say I won't do anything, ever, so there's a chance ...  So from that realm, now it comes down to, it must make sense. And when I say sense, my sense doesn't start with an S, my 'cents' starts with a C." Khan told Newton he was welcome to attend an AEW event at any time.

During an appearance on SportsGrid, Tony Khan was asked whether he could see CMLL being involved in Forbidden Door 3.

“100%, yes,” Tony Khan said. “I definitely want CMLL involved in practically anything we do. They’re such a great partner already. It’s been great. It’s our first year of the partnership, and we’ve been able to some really exciting things working with them, and very excited to bring the CMLL wrestlers to Las Vegas this weekend [for AEW Collision].

Khan was also asked whether he still sees a heavy NJPW presence at a potential Forbidden Door 3. He made it clear that there will be a Forbidden Door 3, and AEW’s partnership with NJPW is still going strong.

“Yes, 100%,” he said. “There will be a Forbidden Door 3. The AEW/New Japan partnership is 100% here to stay, and Forbidden Door, a collaboration between AEW and New Japan, here to stay.”

Back on Aug. 18, 2023, then AEW Tag Team Champion Cash Wheeler was arrested by Orlando police on one charge of aggravated assault with a firearm. AEW quickly released a statement that they were aware of the situation and were closely monitoring it while Wheeler was cooperating with authorities.

The ensuing affidavit release detailed a road rage incident that went too far, with the prosecutor stating he “flashed a handgun.”

There haven’t been many updates on the situation until today, with PW Insider now reporting that Orange County prosecutors have elected to pursue criminal charges against Wheeler. This decision apparently came on Feb. 1.

If convicted, Wheeler could face up to five years in prison, five years probation, and a $5,000 fine.

The next hearing in the case is scheduled for Feb. 20.

Wheeler has been a steady presence on AEW television in the months since these events occurred. We’ll have to see how this news affects that, if at all, in the days to come.

Mercedes Moné has the wrestling world buzzing once again.

Speculation has run rampant on what the former IWGP Women's Champion will do once she's ready to return to the ring. Moné, formerly known as Sasha Banks in WWE, has been out of action since May 2023 after suffering an ankle injury in her Strong Women's Championship tournament final match against Willow Nightingale.

It certainly was not the way Moné envisioned her post-WWE run going, but could she be on the verge of a massive return to the ring?

Numerous reports have suggested that Mercedes Moné is AEW-bound. In fact, the word going around is that AEW founder Tony Khan held off on announcing the signing of Moné in the wake of the Vince McMahon allegations. It's said that Khan felt the McMahon story would overshadow any surprises AEW might have up its sleeve.

AEW is promoting that Tony Khan will have an announcement on the February 7th episode of Dynamite. Moné dropped the following post on X amid all the speculation:

As we previously reported here on eWn, Kamille’s deal with the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) expired at the end of 2023 and she had a lot of interest from WWE.

After she was backstage at the January 18th AEW Dynamite TV tapings, it raised speculation about her potential move to AEW.

According to a report from Pwinsider, the former NWA Women’s Champion is no longer expected to sign with WWE. Despite being offered an NXT deal in the past, discussions have not progressed. Instead, Kamille has been engaged in “deep discussions” with AEW, which is seen as a more favorable destination for her.

Joining AEW would also allow Kamille to pursue her passion for acting, fulfilling her big goal in the process.
