Making Professional Wrestling a More Inclusive Space

Description: Professional wrestling existed essentially as a monopoly for nearly two decades, until Tony Khan launched All Elite Wrestling in January 2019. Since then, the industry has experienced a reinvigoration, not only in terms of competition at the highest level, but also as a welcoming place for fans from all walks of life. From launching as a minority-owned promotion to crowning the first trans champion in a major promotion in history, the past four years have represented a turning point for diversity and inclusivity in an industry that had for many years been going in the wrong direction.

In the rankings for the latter, WrestleTix yesterday (Aug. 19) reported that 80,846 tickets have now been distributed for All In, breaking a record set by WrestleMania 32 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

The Orlando Sentinel reports that Daniel Wheeler — who wrestling fans know as Cash Wheeler, one half of current AEW Tag Team champions FTR — was arrested this morning (Fri., Aug. 18) by Orlando police.

Orange County records show he was booked in Circuit Court on one charge of aggravated assault with a firearm. No other details about the arrest or the count filed against Wheeler are available as of this writing.

AEW Comment

AEIW has been made aware of the charge, and we are closely monitoring the situation. (Wheeler) is fully cooperating with local authorities.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre Deathmatch: Jeff Jarrett vs. Jeff Hardy Is taking place tonight.

I remember seeing Adam Page as the Marshmallow man. Also I remember another match where The Best Friends brought a chainsaw to a lumberjack match. I'm hoping we get to see someone in cosplay tonight I just wonder who could be Leatherface.

No, I really didn't. I don't think the cameras caught it, but I get very emotional when I'm out there because I get connected to the audience, I don't think I've cried in a wrestling ring. I got teary eyed because he stood up and his face was beat red, and at this point in our careers where Billy has been such a beacon of light for us, he's been guiding us from the beginning since we joined up with him last year. He guided us to the AEW Tag Team Titles in New York City. He's been teaching us a ton of stuff every single week. To think about not having him out there with us, it hurts," he said. All In’s ticket advance yesterday surpassed the final number of the famous Hogan vs. Andre WrestleMania III attendance at the Pontiac Silverdome.

It is now fourth place on the all-time list of paid shows, six if you include the two shows in North Korea.

I had a lot of fun working with Daddy Magic. In a perfect world, I’d like to work with him again on some commentary. He was so much fun to work with. It was a little chaotic, but, I think that was the one thing that Daddy Magic and I had when was did (AEW Dark) Elevation was we had a good time.
