Very first software development job came about after applying to shitloads of internships. They asked me to stay on during the school year and then when I was graduating, they gave me an offer on the high end of what I would have expected. They decided to move our division to KC and I decided that I didn't want to move there. So I found a job in another division and am still in that industry 35 years later. All my jobs in that industry have come from connections.
