I lost 70 lbs. It was mainly due to cleaning up my diet. Running is important for health, but the mistake i so often see from people who are trying to lose weight is that they don't change their diet, run way way too hard, then they feel miserable, their willpower runs out, and they give up.

I started out run-walking with a heart rate monitor, keeping my heart below zone 3, and it turns out i really love running. I eventually took the running too far and started running ultramarathons.

The invisibility problem is real and frustrating. People have this image in their head of trans women being caricatures of women because their only exposure to trans women is sensationalized headlines showing unflattering pictures of trans women, or people who are very visible because they're early in transition, (or in the case of repressed conservative men, trans porn). The ones who just look like cis women are invisible, and so no one knows they exist.

Real talk, how do you make (non-romantic) friends as an adult? I only have 3 close friends and all 3 of us are fucking 😐

I got medboarded out after a suicide attempt related to being trans in the military under DADT. At least i didn't get OTH, although I'm still not eligible for a VA home loan.

You can lose about 7% of your bodyweight in a single day before it starts to impair your performance. For a 180 lb person, that means you can lose almost 13 lbs of sweat. The average human stores about a day's worth of calories in muscle glycogen. Once you burn through that, you'll experience something called "hitting the wall". People who aren't trained for this will quite literally just... stop working. They'll fall over and not be able to move. With training, you can make your body better at burning fat to keep your muscles moving even when you surpass the limits of normal human endurance.

Rancid omega-6s are potentially a much larger issue, and endemic to the Western diet. Palm oil is a particularly bad offender, but any oil that contains polyunsaturated fatty acids is not shelf stable. And beyond just "no health benefits", racid PUFAs are actually fixated in your adipose cells as-is, meaning that any weight you gain is going to be in the form of oxidized fatty acids, which are a hallmark of aging.

Put all the pieces together and suddenly the mysterious reason that processed foods are "bad for you" makes a ton of sense.

They most certainly do care. They've been trying to solve this problem since before occupy. The playbook back then was to plant people to give everyone second hand embarrassment and discredit movements, and it largely hasn't changed. Billionaires spend a lot of time thinking about the guillotine.

This is part of a slow trend towards powerful people dressing casually to differentiate themselves from the less powerful people who work for them. Historically, trends like this have been set by the elite and are then emulated by people trying to convince others that they are elite. This is the beginning of the end of formal wear in the United States. Soon a suit will mean "i work at a hotel".

Probably it's more the former reason. I used to curate my experience on reddit carefully and mainly participate woman centric subreddits, and few male centric ones, and I got used to that. Lemmy looks more like what would happen if you browse default subs on reddit, which tend to be very toxic. It's a chicken and egg problem: you won't attract women unless there are spaces women feel comfortable, and those spaces don't exist unless there are women there to create them.

I still find myself going back to reddit for certain niche fashion or fitness things. And when i try to get my normie girlfriends to look at lemmy, it's hard to sell them on it. They don't care about politics or mod drama and reddit is still better for them.

Lemmy is super uncomfy for women right now. The women i know are either still on reddit or just gave up on social media altogether.
