That’s the thing I like about Trump. He always says exactly what he means.

If only we could figure out what he’s saying…

We would. That’s a fairly normal thing to say.

The problem is that Trump tends to use phrases like this literally. Not saying it’s the case this time, but it’s certainly on brand for him. My initial thought was that he’s advocating for getting rid of missiles and replacing such systems with an actual dome. It’s just so hard to figure out what he means sometimes.

Yet it wasn’t always that way. Once upon a time that was the normal, everyday ‘correct’ word for that part of the body. It was only a few hundred years ago we decided that Greek and Latin words were the only proper way to discuss anatomy.

I was a minister of religion for seventeen years and absolutely loved working with kids. I volunteered in a couple of programs at my kid’s school, and their teacher told me I was in the wrong job. She had a good point—the parts of the job I most enjoyed either involved kids or teaching groups of people.

When it came time to change careers, teaching was the obvious choice. My child’s former teacher (who was now a principal) gave me a job as an SSO while I did my degree.

As a postscript, someone associated with one of the programs I’d volunteered in rang me when a teaching role opened up and I was made permanent within a year.
