The dev said in another post that he had really no interest in developing a Lemmy app, but very recently he edited his official shutdown post that boost for Lemmy is happening!
Seems like Boost still works for me (living in Germany). I already am not actively using Reddit anymore since the shitshow started and Boost for Lemmy is becoming a thing, so I'm looking forward to it!
GL! And while at it, a big thank you for running (and fixing occasional server oopsies) this instance. :) I started to donate for the server costs, even if 1€ is mostly symbolic

you can comment on the external instance if your own and theirs like each other. for multiple reasons instance owners can decide to cut communications to outside ones (called defederation). recent examples of cutting communications are beehaw defederating lemmy.world (with the reason of their instance owners wanting to protect themselves from bot invasions) and lemmy.world defederating exploding heads (reason being them being a right wing cesspool)
