Eh...Not too hot on this. I grew up watching Mark Martin drive the Valvoline NASCAR stock car and am happy to see them partner with an F1 team, but by the same token I think that AM's normal livery is terrific. The various Valvoline decals are inoffensive enough but the 'mohawk' is kinda meh.

I imagine that it will be in the sporting regs that the two must be used at the same time and may not be used separately, although having the whole assembly as one piece may be tricky (I would love to see that done though). We'll know next week what the FIA and Mercedes have in mind though.

Hopefully the weather is conducive for a full functionality test and not just an installation and aero shakedown. Right now it's looking like next week will be a damp one there but we'll see. Maybe they can get Ecclestone out there with a hose.

The article claims that the teams have worked on this implementation, so I expect that the cars won't be hampered too much aerodynamically from the new parts. It also says that F1 worked on it as well, so I expect that it will be used for its intended purpose and not just as another aero component. Realistically, if this ultimately gets developed as a non-spec part then expect teams to have it do the minimum permitted amount of deflection and focus more on how they can benefit from manipulating aero around the tire.

What gives me pause, however, is that in articles about this proposed change from both last year and this year there is a reiterated notion that conditions arising that would necessitate the installation of the new components would be paired with a red flag. Hopefully they'll change their tune on that and have it be something to be done on the fly.

Man, I am so excited to see Lando and the updated McLaren have a great weekend. It looks to have us potentially in the mix with Merc and AM. Psyched to see Oscar get the new car next weekend too.

Holy heck, what a finish!

Man, this whole weekend has been thrilling so far

Absolutely awful. I love historic circuits and am in favor of keeping them on the various motorsport calendars, but there needs to be a roundtable on what can be done to improve safety on this section of track.

It's got me super excited. Can't help feel that Lando has been in a bit of a rut with the car not being great, and this has given me a dose of hopium. Both he and Oscar will have the upgrades come next weekend, which could solidify us back towards the midfield.

The fuel nozzle is a completely mechanical implement - there's nothing electronic about it, and the pump has no idea whether you are manipulating the trigger or using the hold-open.

Because it's mechanical, however, the way the hold-open is designed needs to allow for further actuation of the trigger mechanism to free up the hold-open lever when your tank is full. Because of this, the highest setting on the hold-open is less than the full actuation of the trigger mechanism.

The maxiumum gap shown between Lando and Oscar was 7.3s. The maximum gap shown between Carlos and Alex was 2.6s. The track map corroborates this difference.

I think what saved Carlos was, ironically, the gap that Lando set up; Charles was instructed to do the opposite of Lando, so when Lando committed a few things fell into place simultaneously - Ferrari settled on their tire strategy, Charles and Carlos were to stay out, and, most crucially, Carlos had a LOT of time on casino to close back up to Alex, which he sort of did by getting the gap down to 1.6s.

Carlos was indeed being naughty, although he did partially address his transgression. Lando was being VERY unapologetically naughty.
