Not in the southern hemisphere but I went back country skiing last weekend, it was awesome. It would be cool to get some southern hemisphere people on here to build the stoke for next season.
It's there any direct discussion about this besides that one post talking about some posts being removed? I'm not saying that person's concerns aren't valid, but I see a lot of discussion that all leads back to one person. It kinda feels like an echo chamber at this point. Lemmy mod logs are public, someone just needs the time and motivation to look through them if they want to search for their own evidence.
The axis that the moon and earth rotate around is close to parallel. However, this axis is almost never directly "up" unless you are near the rotational poll. To visualize where this axis would be, you can look at the star Polaris or the northern star (check out a star finder app). To get a better sense of what is going on, perhaps look at a time lapse that shows how the stars move around Polaris.
It would be nice if you could whitelist sites for cookies. That way you can stay logged into things like email.
In that case the grid changes as you move on the surface of the earth. "Up" is relative to the center of the earth and is not the same direction in any two places. Cartesian coordinates (the usual x,y,z people think of with graphs) is difficult to use in this case.
Looking into the sky isn't the z axis. It's more like r from polar coordinates. Z in Cartesian coordinates goes through the polls of the moon and earth roughly.
How common are things like the bouba/kiki effect in linguistics? It seems there are some sounds that are based on something other than learned behavior, how much does this cause commonality in real language?
Perhaps grammar? You have a couple of "with" in close proximity to one another. Such mistakes just let us know you are a real developer though :-)
The easiest way to get started is to just find a self contained issue on the issue tracker and fix it.
Most major open source projects will have documents on how to contribute but the workflow is typically something like:
- Fork the repository and make a branch
- Fix the issue
- Make a pull request back to the original repository.
When you are getting started, it helps to make small changes that the maintainers can easily review. For example, this issue looks like something that may be fixable without too many changes. Also, evaluating the patch is pretty easy since the bug is reproducible.
Thanks I will post there and see how it goes. I wonder if it may be better to restart the community in the winter though.
Edit, I notice this is on lemmynsfw and most of the posts are for nsfw communities. It's there a version for generally sfw communities? I am still having some trouble understanding sfw/nsfw best practices...
Thanks for the guidelines, any suggestions for communities that don't have enough moderators yet? I started a back country skiing community but it's really not the time of year for such a thing to get attention. I have a note on the sidebar to recruit moderators, but I doubt the interest will be there until December or so.
Edit: to be clear, I have no experience as a mod. I am learning as I go. Back country skiing is a pretty small community in general, the Reddit sub only had one mod after 12 years. I see the need for more mods and I have a call out for them, but I don't know how long it will take.
It's a complex subject that deserves legitimate scientific study. There are known detrimental effects of low fertility rates in a country, but they often take a long time to manifest. However, there are also many examples of horrific consequences of governments trying to affect fertility rate.
