Hi all!

I joined the community a while ago - I was a long time lurker at r/asoiaf.

Here’s my question for y’all: How do you feel about Young Griff ? I am still kind of puzzled at his inclusion. Kind of creating a plot line that might take tension from the eventual R+L=J reveal to Danny.

Thoughts ?

Thanks for giving us a topic to discuss - hoping this community will pick up eventually.

100% necessary character that I see being the true conflict/reason that Danny finally goes to Westeros. We saw what happened when they left his character out of the show, and I think it was the 1st big mistake that led to contrived plot points D&D had to come up with to still fit in George's overall plan.

I like this take! I guess I am puzzled by his inclusion because (to me) it feels like it came out of nowhere.

Granted, I only realized/discovered R+L=J in forums, missing all the clues in the first book. 🤷🏻‍♂️

@dornad @GrossMargin
I mean, all the elements in the backstory are there, so It didn't come out of nowhere, but I agree that it could not pop up and not be missed. (I didn't see any of these things before a second read.)

While on the subject, a friend wrote a pretty solid essay that covers the possibility that Aegon is real and has been part of Vary's plan from the first book.

I think a lot of my unease about Young Griff stems from the fact that ADWD is the final book for the time being, and it has been so for a looong time...Which makes him feel like an out-of-left-field addition at the last minute.

If/when we have more story I think he has a lot of potential to trigger some interesting reactions and choices for the characters we already know.

@DapperDog @dornad Legit, I felt that way about every character in Feast before I gave it a second read.

it does seem like a major plot point to bring up so far into the story, I think I remember feeling that way a bit the first time I read it. but it also promises to be absolutely fascinating, and makes you go back and see things with a whole new lens.
