I used to card the old ladies when i worked the movie theater box office.
Used to do this selling alcohol at the gas station. Most of them love it, every once in a while though one forgot their ID and now you're in a weird spot: deny the sale, or tell them you were just being nice and they're clearly over 40.
"I tell you what I'll let you make it this time but make sure you remember that ID next time!"
Yeah, still you're indirectly telling them that they do in fact look old enough.
If they're over 40, I hope they're not that worried about looking 20. That would be a sad life.
