If you get a divorce in North Korea, you and your spouse will be sent to a labor camp for one to six months to atone for your “crimes,” residents in the country told Radio Free Asia.

Divorce is considered an anti-socialist act, and is generally frowned upon in Korea.

Coming soon to a Republican house bill near you...

[–] BenM2023 18 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But only if its the woman who wants the divorce.... And then only if the man's income is above $1000000 otherwise they are poor and therefore should be in a labour camp/work for Amazon anyway. If they are same sex they go to the camp anyway.

Not sure if /s is appropriate cos I am a "right ponder" and don't know how close to the truth I am...

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah, or they make a fine rule "For 100.000$ you can buy you out of the camp or send an immigrant to take your place."

Because of course Trump, his cronies and all these idiots still want the option to get rid of their (35+) "aging" wife's and make sure the 20 year old they bought cannot run away that fast.

I fully expect a "you cannot leave the country without your husband's approval" app like in Saudi Arabia at some point.

North Korea is too pro-woman’s rights for Republicans

"Divorce is considered an anti-socialist act"

I don't even understand what this means.

I feel like it's like saying "eating pineapple pizza is generally an anti-banking act."

...what?

I think the logic is that a low birth rate is bad for the state. To harm the state makes one an anti-socialist.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Does divorce by itself even lower the birthrate though? Intuitively, one might suspect that a couple that were no longer interested in eachother probably isn't having many children, compared to if those people were to pair off again with new partners?

Yeah, I feel like promoting healthcare for pregnant people and children, giving incentives to having kids and pushing out propaganda pertaining to sex without condoms feeling better and pregnant women being sexy is all the rage while using movies, tv, and music to push promiscuity would help birth rates.

"Had a hard day... Take it out on a hard cock." Haha things I never thought I'd type in my life for 200 Alex

[–] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

The cannon fodder isn't going to make itself

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Now that they found a business selling mercenaries they need to increase the birth rate

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I'm a firm-believer that if people do not want to understand something, then they won't.

It doesn't take much thought to realize they're referring to the unity of the nation. Divorces cause problems. They show not everything is hunky-dory. The regime doesn't want that.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Divorces solve problems. That's what they are for. What they cause is a glitch in the mirage, you think? Probably, but it might be something more idiotic even.

North Korea is all about appearances, actual solutions aren't important

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Well since we're sharing firm beliefs, I firmly believe if your intent is to inform someone then insulting the person you're supposedly informing is the worst way to go about it. People just get defensive and will attempt to reject information more readily when that is done.

The most "reliable" source possible

[–] [email protected] 19 points 1 week ago

So, they allow divorce, but that comes bundled with a near death sentence for both?

Wasn't easier to just forbid divorces? I'm guessing the elite needs divorces for when they find a hotter girl.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You have to like really fuckin hate each other to still get a divorce.

[–] betterdeadthanreddit 6 points 1 week ago

Could be the start of the plot for a romantic comedy brought to you by NK's propaganda films department. Divorcing couple sign the papers, get carted off to a labor camp and learn to love the state -- and each other (but mostly the state) -- all over again.

These people have different problems all together. Do you think they want self actualize, find themselves or some shit? Lol 😂 divorce

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago

Did you even read the post?

[–] ATDA 5 points 1 week ago

"Please don't tell me we got assigned to the same camp, damn!"

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 week ago

Get a divorce? Straight to jail. No question.

[–] mrfriki 2 points 1 week ago

Isn’t the whole North Korea just a big labor camp?

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 week ago

If Project 2025 becomes a reality we might start seeing headlines which say "In the United States, couples who divorce will be sent to labor camps".

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

lol, we all know the organisation running radio free Asia to spread its propaganda… lol 😂😂😂

[–] [email protected] -3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Isn't this source funded by the CIA?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 week ago (2 children)

No, it's funded by Congress, but that hardly means anything.

You need to go learn what editorial independence is. Journalists for RFA aren't being sentenced to 3 generations of there family being out into concentration camps for disagreeing with the US govt.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Why is congress funding it?

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 week ago

I mean it's pretty much our version of the BBC.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Congress holds the checkbook. Nothing any part of the federal government does is funded by anyone unless they write the metaphorical check.

News about the world is important to have without it coming from private money, just as news from private money is important to have so it isn't all coming from the governments money.

Other instances of money being used in this way is PBS. So, Mr. Rogers, Reading Rainbow, Sesame Street, Arthur, The Magic School Bus, Wishbone... all aired on TV for the American populous because Congress wrote a check.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 week ago

Careful. If Trump could read, he'd think that was a brilliant idea.
