The US dollar will likely remain the global reserve currency, because the US still has the world's largest economy and the world's largest military. The US still has the means to maintain its global hegemony. However, the US has been showing signs of weakening. The US has a serious leadership problem. The US also has a serious education problem. The US also has high levels of inequality, that threaten stability. The US hasn't done enough to protect itself from threats, both internal and external, nor has the US invested enough in its own people, and it's weakened as a result. The US full embrace of neoliberalism has made it weaker.

A weakening US may be an opportunity for the rest of the world to come together and develop a neutral global reserve currency, one that is not tied to or controlled by any one nation.
