Should I start referring to memory leaks as rain now? πŸ€”

Depends on the size. If they are small, they could just be a drizzle, but if they are large then a downpour? 🌦️

Is the image not loading for anyone else, or just me?

On Lemmy.World using the base Lemmy webpage UI (not an app) I see both the thumbnail and it expands to the entire image at https://lemmy.world/post/22313708. So it might be just you somehow?

Thanks, must be a bug with mlem on iOS. I had the same though when I bookmarked the post and logged in via Brave to check so not sure what’s going on… new to lemmy so not sure if it’s just user error.

Hrm, if it helps, here is the source URL for it: https://techresearchonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/tech-meme-on-AI.webp. I wonder if its being a webp could be causing some issues? That's odd that even Brave would have issues though. I just tried and the Voyager app works for me - so it's not all apps only some. It also works for me in both Chrome and Firefox, so I wonder if it could be a country issue (even if via a proxy that you could be using) though those are usually more of a problem with video than image content.

I suggest to try it on Chrome or Firefox or something, just as a super quick diagnosis, and then if you see a ton of images behaving similarly it may help figure out how you want to use Lemmy moving forward. I left iOS behind years ago so am not sure what the standard app is for that, but I can say that I haven't heard the name mlem for quite a long time - according to GitHub it seems to have been last updated May iirc so it is far from "abandoned", but see e.g. this post discussing the issue and singing the praises of Thunder, Voyager, Boost, Sync, Connect. And fwiw, the latter two are the only ones I've ever heard of that allow blocking of all users from an entire instance, highly recommended for hexbear.net and Lemmygrad.ml and possibly Lemmy.ml also - although you being on Lemmy.world means that the former two are already taken care of for you, and you could appreciate the additional features of the other ones more (sorry, I'm useless there as I just use the base web UI, and my PieFed-based instance does not even have an API yet to be able to connect with via an app at all!:-D).

No, only cold storage items fall as rain. If you keep your data hot by accessing it it won't be able to condensate into cold storage and fall off.

Cloud provider: pay me $$$ if you don't want it to fall down... πŸŒ¦οΈβ›ˆοΈ

Yeah that's literally the sales pitch.

"Hey for $$$ we'll backup your shit"

"Hey for more $$$ we'll backup it off-site"

"Hey for $$$ you can get couple more 9s to your availability sla"

Etc

If you don’t replicate your data across AZs or regions, and the rain caused significant flooding, yes.

They can leak a lot and can cause massive shitstorms.
