Summary

Prosecutors in Trump’s case involving 34 felony counts of falsifying business records tied to hush money payments have proposed delaying sentencing until after his presidency, citing the unique legal challenges posed by his election.

Trump’s lawyers argue the case should be dismissed based on a Supreme Court ruling on presidential immunity, but prosecutors assert that the trial evidence remains strong.

This case marks the first criminal conviction of a former U.S. president and has sparked intense legal and political controversy.

It is a lovely quashing of dissent of fascism that we're seeing. Make no mistake, they will go for the throat in January. But this? This is embarrassing and a dereliction of oath and accountability. This should have been done in 2021 instead of making this wet fart of a political statement in the year of an election.

This whole ordeal feels like a massive miscalculation from the Democrats. They slow-played Trump's prosecutions so that they could convict him after he secured the nomination. He should have been charged with everything they had in 2021.

Give them an inch, they'll take a foot.

Just destroy any trust we have in Justice. That certainly will end well.

...you guys trust justice?

... and that's that. No real consequences for dictators. USA! USA! Kings are okay if they're our kings, I guess.

The prosecutors in every single one of the MANY cases against him fucked up royally every step of the way. How can so many people make so many mistakes? I mean, even though they were up against judges who were actively trying to fuck them, they should have ended these cases a year ago.

[–] TexasDrunk 15 points 3 days ago (1 children)

These weren't mistakes. Some of them were slow walked because they were friendly judges waiting to see when they could dismiss without it coming back. Others were slow walked trying to fuck Trump during election season.

This was a miscalculation by state officials who cared more about playing politics than they did about justice.

[–] dogslayeggs 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

A miscalculation is still a mistake. If their intention was to get him convicted, regardless of before or during election season, their slow-walking failed. They made mistakes.

You are correct about friendly judges. I don't know enough about lawyering to know if there was a way for the DA to pick better venues with less friendly judges.

I think this is one of those cases where we're using different language but completely agree.

What I meant by mistakes was that they weren't making trial mistakes. They were making dumb ass political calculations when they should have been seeking justice. I generally think of that as a "tried and failed" tactic rather than "we were misguided".

That being said, you're right. Playing politics rather than treating everyone equally under the law is a huge fucking mistake.

Even if Trump doesn't abuse his power to escape this, he will die of old age before 4 years are up.
