I clone my non-expedition ship at the anomaly first chance. I think it was 2200 nanites, which you can get about that from id’ing all the animals on the second planet in the first system.

Posting Rules
To allow the community to function as a searchable index of discoveries, please adhere to these posting requirements:
- One item per post
- Glyphs must be provided
- No automated (bot) finds
- Be polite and respectful.
- As Lemmy currently lacks "flair", the post title for discoveries must be prefixed with discovery/galaxy:, where discovery is one of: starship, fabricated starship, multitool, freighter, derelict freighter, fauna, flora, planet, base, farm (e.g. starship/Euclid: or multitool/Eissentam:)
- Guide and resource posts should be prefixed with Guide/discovery: or Resource/discovery:
- Ship requirements: Galaxy, glyphs or galactic coordinates, and picture of the ship.
- Fabricated Ship requirements: Galaxy, glyphs or galactic coordinates, image with supercharged slot arrangement.
- Crashed, Sunken Ship, and Living Ship requirements: Include planetary coordinates and the planet's name.
- Multi-tool requirements: Galaxy, glyphs or planetary coordinates, a picture of the MT, instructions for how to obtain the multitool, and planetary coordinates for planetside cabinets. Staff finds must include the assembly location and staff head.
- Base/farm requirements: Galaxy, glyphs or galactic coordinates, picture of the base, and the base's name.
- Planet requirements: Galaxy, glyphs or planetary coordinates, a picture of the planet, and the planet's biome.
Use of "standard" part names for ships is strongly encouraged.

I used that initial batch of nanites for my multitool. I also was in the middle of clearing out old ships in my primary before starting the expedition, so it was some random salvaged ship. Then I found this guy.
How is the expedition?
Great! It's a big change of pace from the previous "Aquarius" expedition. The initial scramble for survival at the beginning was a rush.
There are criticisms of bad starts on islands, and some people really don't like the "ghostly" messages that keep popping up. It's moderately combat heavy, although not quite like Liquidators.
