Fuck Palantir and fuck anyone and everyone in that business top to bottom. It is maybe the most transparently evil business in existence.

While other countries press forward, many Silicon Valley engineers remain opposed to working on software projects that may have offensive military applications, including machine learning systems that make possible the more systematic targeting and elimination of enemies on the battlefield. Many of these engineers will build algorithms that optimize the placement of ads on social media platforms, but they will not build software for the U.S. Marines.

Wild how chill they are about using ML to kill people.

How is using ML any different that other tech? The goal of a military is to kill as many of the opposing force as possible while minimizing their own casualties. Whether they use night vision or a slide rule, the goal is the same.

If it were true AI that was autonomously taking the decision to kill humans, yeah that would be a fundamental change. ML isn’t really a change in targeting systems.

It’s almost as if they can’t conceive that to normal people a lower ctr due to mistakes or shortcomings of their work don’t weight on their consciousness in the same way as getting innocent people killed.

I love reading about the use of AI in politics over the past decade. One thing I noticed is that once a person runs a successful campaign they either quit and devote their life to undoing the damage they did or.. They say things like "takes a strong stomach" and devote their lives to causing riots and civil wars for massive profit.
