My goal is just to have a community where people can go and see what new game news is out for the day and comment on it.

yep, I've know player that dumped like a couple hundreds on 1 said he is not going to pay a dime on 2. (well he had said that thing following some balance patch in 1 as well but still keep playing, only 2 cemented his claim. now I don't need to hear him complain. :D)
I love the game, but it's hard to ignore the sleazy business model. Who is buying these $20-40 skins?
Am I out of touch? No, it's the children who are wrong.
It was doomed when they went from 6 to 5 players a side. Tank became so much worse. And that's before all the PvE nonsense
I've only ever played 2 and we love it (obviously don't care about the expensive ass skins), didn't even know it was 6v6, what class got an extra player?
Overwatch 1 had 2 of each class. 2 tanks allowed a much different dynamic. Your off tank could either pick enemies that are out of position with the dps or double back and help your back line. Made things way more interesting
Way way waaaay back on release (or was it in beta?), there wasn't any hero limit. You could pick 6 Winstons and go full monke on your opponents.
Then they made each hero unique, but you were still free with comps. You could pick 3 tanks and 3 healers, or 5 DPS and a poor tank who'd get flamed for letting his team die.
Eventually they settled on a fixed 2-2-2, which was extremely boring and basically killed any kind of interesting strat or just fun play.
I think 2 does have an Arcade mode that let you do whatever comp you want, but only 1 of each specific hero. So you could have 5 DPS but only 1 Tracer, IIRC.
People were very defensive of 5vs5. But if you check /r/Overwatch right now (I did because I was looking for the news about teams receiving a 6million withdrawal payment), there's a thread full to the brim of people who hate 5vs5 and want 6vs6 back.
So basically, how people feel about X depends on which way Y is spinning in the news, uh? Oh well, me, I always hated and will hate the change, so, good.
No surprise, even since beta players have said it's gonna bomb if they stick to their planned business model.
I really wish they'd bring back OW1 as "Overwatch Classic" or something. If they did that, especially if they put it on Steam and dropped the lootboxes, I would play the absolute crap out of it. I miss OW1, and I miss my girl Orissa with her shield. 😭
