Am I crazy that I don't think it looks that bad?

Looks like a pretty good invention. Imagine you have guests coming over, and you need to make lots of sandwiches. Cutting egg slices from an egg cake like this sounds reasonably convenient to me.

It's already a product. It was invented by a Danish company in 1974. Unsurprisingly it's called "langæg" = "long egg"

It's used widely by restaurants and sandwich cafés.

It's not made as a cake though and I'm not sure if OPs recipe would even work, as it'd likely mix before setting.

The way they're made on the factory is by separating the yolks from the egg whites by centrifugation. Basically all the eggs that aren't sold due to cracks or sizes or shell color are tossed into a centrifuge. The white and yolk have different mass, so they separate easily that way.

The white is then slightly cooked while being centrifuged again at somewhat slower speed. The yolk can then be added and cooked fully.

Wow thanks for explaining how it's made because i was really confused

Wow, wasn’t expecting to find that info in a meme community. It’s finally happened, my Lemmy migration is complete.

OK now I want the recipe 😅

12 eggs, put 'em in the cake tin, throw it into the oven at like 150 degrees C I guess, wait for some time until it looks nicely cooked.

It looks like the tubular egg that they use in cafeteria.

How do they even make these?

Edit: Nevermind, found the answer below.

What's the answer? I don't see the comment you're referring to.

It's funny that this takes me to some "Games" page about Resident Evil. However when I copy the permalink, I get the same result.

Edit: It's normal on the browser, somehow Jerboa fucks up the result. :)

You’re not alone, I would totally see this at a hotel for breakfast 😁

Look again more carefully. The objectionable part isn't actually the egg, it's the granulated sugar coating.

Lots of other folks in this thread are (rightfully) pointing out that hard-boiled eggs can taste fine when baked into things, but all their examples are savory and this one isn't.

[–] idunnololz 4 points 1 year ago

It might not taste bad but I wouldn't call it "cake"

Y'all never heard of bacon and egg pie?

Put some pastry around the sides, throw some bacon in with the eggs, and it's a real thing. I can't find a recipe like how I make it but here's one that's similar. Some recipes put vegetables in but I'm not sure why you'd ruin it like that.

Well now I'm hungry.

This looks like what happens in BotW when you dump a dozen eggs into the cooking pot

[–] regeya 6 points 1 year ago

I've been tempted to do this for things like egg salad sandwiches and potato salad.

Quiche in a pan. Nothing to see here.
