I don't wanna discredit the bravery of the kid, but the article indicates that first responders were on the scene by the time the kid returned with help. Depending on how far the car was knocked from the road, and how busy the road was, he might have gotten much faster results by just hanging out and trying to flag down a car. Can't blame a nine-year-old for not acting rationally in a situation like this though, poor kid really went through hell.
