Would taking the title race down to the last game of the season represent progress regardless of final standings?

Would going out narrowly to Bayern in the CL be acceptable, given our long absence from the competition?

If both these were to go against us, how will the fan base (and more importantly myself) feel about the way this season has gone? Detached pragmatism or despair?

The next few games are going to be incredibly difficult to watch given that we all know how close we are to tangible success.

CL - semifinal exit

PL - 2nd place, with no lost points between now and the end of the season. Still don't see where pool might lose points.

This is what I'm expecting. Might be annoying short term, but Mikel is in it for the long haul.

I feel like Liverpool will win it. I also can't see where they will drop points and are 3 points ahead of City.

Both very reasonable questions, one's I've been asking myself recently as well:

  1. I think it is absolutely progress. It will be a shame to be so close and miss out on a title 2 seasons in a row. However, I think the team has more experience and the players have grown into their roles more. I also think they have a better/stronger mentality compared to last year.

Also keep in mind how consistent Liverpool and City have been at the top. Then you factor in how many Liverpool have won in that period. And we have been contending with both powerhouses 2 years in a row! It feels so good to be back competing again.

  1. Yes, I think we're really close to being consistent European contenders, but maybe a few pieces missing to push that little bit further? The only thing I would say is dropping out to Bayern could cause a domino affect in the league. Hopefully not, just listing a possibility.

I think I will leave it there. I feel I could keep going, but I'll just talk in circles lol. Curious to know what everybody else thinks.

I'm happy already that we've done what we've done so far, idc if we actually win them though obviously I want it. Journey > destination.

Dare we dream that Liverpool have two shaky Anfield games in a row means that their next away game might spell doom for their title chances to our benefit?

Obviously they still got 6 points from their last two games but having watched both, they didn't look as dominant as other games of theirs..

I dare to dream. I think United steal a point and Palace win.

Idk but honestly anything can happen at Old Trafford. Gotta just focus on ourselves and take our chances when they count

You can't keep conceding like they have been without eventually being hurt. The only issue for us is that there really aren't that many games left!

Old Trafford is an unpredictable game. I put the chances Liverpool winning 0-5 or losing 2-1 at about equal.

I just keep reminding myself football is a funny thing

Interesting, I've only been keeping tabs on the final scores. I can see why people are still sticking with City then.

[–] hangonasecond 2 points 10 months ago

Yep. I'd say City have looked a little more consistent of late, even with Haaland not firing on all cylinders

So high they're likely to miss out on European football, lol
