Tbf he has gotten better at that, like Saka played 45 minutes only not that long ago. Kinda hard to sub off your best player if you're not like massively certain you'll win

I think we also all agree we don't have someone of similar quality as backup unless you're shifting Jesus out wide and having Nketiah/Havertz up top.

We have players who could slot in, but Saka is ahead of the rest by far.

Not only this but the past month has seen our least congested fixtures for the season and heading into the break.

We made plenty of early subs in the games we were smashing the opposition, but against Porto it was a calculated risk to use our best players for the whole match, balanced by the fact we have a three week break.

Edit: got instead of gone

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised with a trophyless season. Gaffer doesn't trust his bench players and he's going to run Saka, Rice and Saliba to the ground.

I think you're right about him not trusting the bench right now. I think as Jesus, Partey, Zinny and Tomiyasu start to return, he'll be looking to use those more.

As for trophyless, it's hard to say, but look at the teams we're competing against. I think there will be other factors at play if that is the case.

Let's see what the future holds :)

I'd be very surprised with another trophyless season considering we would have to somehow lose the Community Shield we already won

I would have counted it as a proper trophy if it had been called the "English Super Cup".
