I found a wonderful photography page dedicated to turkey vultures.

What do you like about Turkey Vultures?

Mostly it's a sentimental attachment. They're local to where I used to live (northern Nevada) and also they feature in Wild West culture. They're a symbol of adventures gone wrong. "He's food for the vultures now."

The person who posted this image rightly pointed out that they are usually portrayed with long necks, which is very much wrong.

Wait, real life vultures aren't known for long necks? What about the California condor?

The Turkey Vulture and California Condor are the 2 vultures of the West. Turkey vultures don't have long necks, California Condors do. Makes identification easy.

But the California condor looks like they have a fat face and neck... so their neck doesn't seem as long as it would otherwise.

Oh yeah ! Well you have a fat face and neck. ~I'm~ ~totally~ ~kidding.~
