Hello, very simple question. I am doing my first build and about to order my parts, but I was wondering if the 7800XT is worth the leap and possible long-term gains over the 6700XT? I wanted to know personal experience from normal people, rather than a bunch of tech youtubers. Also if you use Linux, that would be quite helpful.

What resolution does your monitor have or will have?

The 7800xt is almost certainly going to be better in every way, but how limited is your budget now? If you're planning on 1080p for the forseeable future the 6700xt is damn good, its even pretty good at 1440p, its a GREAT card for the price point. A graphics card swap down the track (money aside) is a very easy swap, so have a think about would you rather "future proof" your mobo/cpu/ram with the price difference or get the better card now.

I only have 1080p atm, but was planning on upgrading my monitor. I'm still debating on what to do really. My mobo is already future proof, and I have 32 gigs of RAM. I saw an open box 6700 XT going around 250, so tbh I might just wait for the gen after this one or something before I upgrade the monitor and get a new GPU. Only issue is that I want to go SFF, so I wonder if the next gen would even fit in this thing. The Terra can fit up to 320 mm, but it still scares me.

Minor ramble aside, thanks for the advice. This actually helped me the most.

Edit: Yeah these things are going for like 200 on the secondhand market. Ez pick.

Happy to help, I scored my 6700xt second hand for about $225US about 12 months ago. It was an absolute steal, not the card I was looking for but at that price I was willing to give it a go and I havent had a single complaint yet at 1080p.
