Well the US certainly wouldn't do THAT.

It is still technically illegal to be a communist or support the party or "Communist-action" organizations in the US. Even though as far as I know, the US government has never "freely admitted" arresting someone for being communist

The Act made membership to the Communist Party a criminal act and stipulated that all Party members would be sanctioned with up to a $10,000 fine or imprisonment for five years or both if they failed to register with the U.S. Attorney General as such. Additionally, according to the third section, the Communist Party would be deprived of "the rights, privileges, and immunities of a legal body.

Ignoring even just the publicly known covert agency programs to undermine the Communist Party of the United States, including possibly being involved in the eventual assassination of MLK jr

Ignoring also the war on cannabis for the explicit purpose of undermining counter-culture and anti-war movements in the 1960's and 70's.

But jesus man, stop inviting comparisons between china and the us!
