General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

The projected poll places the Tories on just 53 seats - with even the PM losing his seat. This would place the Tories with lowest number of seats since 1832 when party was formed.

his closeness with mums net, his refusal to condemn duffield, the fact that wes streeting is a full on terf, the fact they've already committed to implementing the debunked cass review nonsense (despite the tories coming out and saying it was purely a partisan driven narrative), and the fact that i know tories are shit but labour is supposed to be better yet here comes tony blair being trotted out to peddle more transphobia.

oh and the fact that starmer wants to be like thatcher.

Will, I can't say you don't have your reasons. I don't share them, but, honestly, this particular aspect of their policy isn't my main concern at this election. I really really hope that you're wrong and they prove to be more progressive than you fear.

Ms Duffield has said there should be protected spaces where those born male are not allowed to go, such as domestic violence refuges and prisons, and she is against people being able to self-identify as trans to gain access to those spaces.

What a horrible person. Wanting to protect vulnerable people.

She should be condemned for this inhumanity.

The issue is that this is a non-existent problem. No one peeling this argument has managed to provide an example of an abusive man following his victim to a domestic abuse shelter and then claiming to be trans to access that space.

I also imagine that it wouldn't be too hard to deal with if it did occur. Let's imagine the same scenario among a lesbian couple. When the abusive partner tried to gain access, the abused partner would simply let staff know that was her abusive partner and they would tell the other person that they can't stay there and redirect them to other services.

The insertion of trans people into this situation is facile and bigoted.

There are examples of sex offenders then pretending to be trans to be put in a women's prison though. There was a famous example of that in Scotland recently.

All because they could just "self-identify" and apparently that was good enough for him to be moved to a women's prison. Absolute insanity.

I've not heard of that. Care to share a link?
