Also, ferns have some of the largest genomes that exist. And iirc, they are extremely polyploid. The suggestion as I recall from another age, is that if your goal is extreme redundancy of genetic data to prevent a loss of information, ferns have got you covered.
The ferns shall inherit the earth.
