This is a hand written message that is only visible because this box has been sitting in my closet for so long that the glue dried out. Hiding a message like that is a bit... mysterious.

I assume that this is actually just part of the manufacturing process. Google translate tells me the first part is something about river salt in Japanese. The second part looks like a product ID and the last part is a date in YY.M.DD format. But if it needs to be there why not just print it like a serial number?

I saw this picture in a property advert in Tampere, Finland. Anyone know what it is? I'm guessing some sort of woodworking machine but I have no idea what!

NOTE: kbin isn't letting me upload the images (the upload button is just stuck spinning.) So instead here they are on Imgur:

Pretty much what the title says. In the process of buying this house and had some contractors come over to install new pillars for the front stares (old ones where starting to rot). After they left I went to look at their work and noticed these little pipe things attached to the side of the house. I also found them on the completely opposite side of the house next to the garage door.

I found this buried in my garden. It’s steel, with some flecks of galvanization still visible here and there. Definitely stamped from sheet stock originally, the ring is welded, and it’s especially interesting to me that the right “foot” of the little “table” cutout is narrower than the left one, as if it’s keyed to connect to something in a single direction.

Ideas so far:

  • livestock tag (we live near ooold stockyards)
  • cremains tag (spooky)
  • key fob/id (but why the welded ring?)

Does anyone know what it really is?

I found this coin some years ago, the writing looks chinese and some coins in east asia also have the square in the middle.
