A community to fight laws which takes away people's rights to experiment with and use cryptocurrency (and other forms of distributed ledger tech), and to encourage legislation which protects it.

We also encourage large organizations to adopt crypto-friendly policies, like asking large non-profits to allow donations via crypto.

The EU has quietly imposed cash limits EU-wide:

  • €3k limit on anonymous payments
  • €10k limit regardless (link which also lists state-by-state limits).

From the jailed¹ article:

An EU-wide maximum limit of €10 000 is set for cash payments, which will make it harder for criminals to launder dirty money.

It will also strip dignity and autonomy from non-criminal adults, you nannying assholes!

In addition, according to the provisional agreement, obliged entities will need to identify and verify the identity of a person who carries out an occasional transaction in cash between €3 000 and €10 000.

The hunt for “money launderers” and “terrorists” is not likely meaningfully facilitated by depriving the privacy of people involved in small €3k transactions. It’s a bogus excuse for empowering a police surveillance state. It’s a shame how quietly this apparently happened. No news or chatter about it.

¹ the EU’s own website is an exclusive privacy-abusing Cloudflare site inaccessible several demographics of people. Sad that we need to rely on the website of a US library to get equitable access to official EU communication.

update

The Pirate party’s reaction is spot on. They also point out that cryptocurrency is affected. Which in the end amounts to forced banking.

This is a day created to make representatives more aware that their constituents care about crypto and want to assert their freedom to use it. Pro-crypto lobbying group is asking people to ask their reps to support the The Financial Innovation and Technology for the 21st Century Act which pretty much everybody in crypto agrees is a good bill for removing legislative ambiguity around crypto.

This law would allow an expansion of software patents, slowing or completely preventing the development of blockchain and other DLT technology in the US.

In the UK? Contact your MP to express your disappointment. cross-posted from: https://monyet.cc/post/804684

Summary

The UK Parliament has passed the Online Safety Bill (OSB), claiming it will enhance online safety but actually leading to increased censorship and surveillance. The bill grants the government the authority to compel tech companies to scan all user data, including encrypted messages, to detect child abuse content, effectively creating a backdoor. This jeopardizes privacy and security for everyone. The bill also mandates the removal of content deemed inappropriate for children, potentially resulting in politicized censorship decisions. Age-verification systems may infringe on anonymity and free speech. The implications of how these powers will be used are a cause for concern, with the possibility that encrypted services may withdraw from the UK if their users' security is compromised.

No judgement, let's share :). I'll start. Yes, but I have always been a bit unsure about which bills to support/not support, but I just generally tell them I support crypto. I don't know how much it helps, but I know it can't hurt to be hearing it from the voting public.
